Hey all, I've had my profec b fitted and set up by the kind folk at power engineering and at 1.07 bar it made 301bhp and 264 lbs ft of torque and the car feels soooo nice and responsive now..

But before i went up there i phoned fensport and ordered new plugs/leads/dizzy cap and rotor arm so i knew everything was running right but when i asked them which plugs to go for they suggested the NGK iridium would be the best to go for so i ordered them, i popped everything on and headed up there and everything was running perfectly until he upped the boost and it started mis firing a little bit.
He then asked straight away which plugs i had in the car so i told him and he told me that they have a tendancy to to do this on cars which run quite rich..

He suggested i replace them with the NGK platinum ones BFR7 (i think) so i went straight from there to my local motor factor and bought some and it completely sorted the misfire :D It wound me up a little bit that fennies sold me these plugs as i thought they'd be well aware of this... oh well

Car is now running perfectly and i am one happy boy  Have been out terrorising folk with all the new noises it makes lol

Dave,

It's all a matter of personal choice, but Kris and I always use std copper NGK's (BKR7E).

We've never had an issue with these and at the price we get them, even having to change them once a year (ish) we still end up quids in compared to Irridium prices

301bhp at 1.1bar is excellent going mate.

Well done :)

I run irid 9's and have never had a murmer from them so i guess you never had the gaps set right.
0.4 for high boost.
That is quality power for 1.1bar,well done.

Hutch - I have been told in the past that its not good to 'gap' iridium plugs as the procedure can damage the delicate iridium coating.

I have a very slight hesitation at high rpm sometimes, I might give the platinum ones a go. :)

Once I have got through my backlog of iridiums I will probably also switch to copper

Although I don't like swapping plugs too often as I seem to have bad luck with one plug thread :(

I've never had to change my plugs. They've been in the car nine years and never given me any trouble :D

A lot of the tuners use modified ignition systems to cope with high boost pressures 'blowing out' the standard spark e.g. HKS Twin Power. Adrian has fitted the MoTeC Ignition System to his Gen7 'GT-Four' Celica so perhaps he was experiencing ignition problems too?

I am running Denso iridiums (IK22 IIRC) had no problems at 1.4 bar. The Iridiuns should not be gapped - they are set from the factory - you purchase the plug with teh correct gap.
