Similar to Mahender's question really,

Will there be any adverse effects if I remove the guards behind the brake discs on my 205? I know they are obviously there to keep the discs from getting dirty/spoilt. Is it just an OTT protection?

I just thought that removing them might greatly improve brake cooling at trackdays for example.

The brake disc guards are there to stop excessive amounts of water adversely affecting braking performance under rainy conditions. I guess they will also prevent debris thrown up by the wheels from getting lodged between the pad and the disc which could result in scoring of the disc.

I'll probably remove mine soon as they are so badly corroded they are probably a source of rusty debris themselves.

Mine too look a bit worse for wear and will also probably remove them seeing as I really don't cover all that much mileage (accept when travelling to trackdays in the future! )

I'm not sure if they do have any cooling effect?
They are certainly ducted but that could well be for show

Don't know if Mike "Temp Strip" Kelly has been on track since removing his?

I think the stock gaurds have some ducting effect i.e. a portion of the gaurd sticks out and helps to direct air towards the disks.

Don't think is particularly effective though?

ive been thinking about this subject myself recently, after removing all 4 guards (tin snipped off) when i fitted the larger brakes (front and rear) from a uk 185 (da tony b's pig).

what i thought was to fabricate up some larger guards for a dual purpose.
1. to help deflect stones and water from the caliper and disc.
2. be sturdy enough for me to run ducting from the front bumper to the guard and secure.

this is all up in the air as i havent even fitted the FMIC which ive had for months now...

I don’t think the stone guards are going to stop the water from getting into, or onto the brakes, unless hermetically sealed.

They do offer a small amount of cooling, with the little air displacer, but really not worth keeping, the disc's don’t get that much forward air flow, not as much as you would think.

They are pretty covered with the wheel arch, wheel, front bumper, etc if front, the rears are no better.

It’s for this reason they run brake ducting to the inner centre of each disc.

Stone guards are another issue, road use can cause sometimes the odd situation where they can get in to the pad and disc area.
