Discovered last night that my C-One cooling panel doesn't fit with the Koyo :( I need to remove about 5 to 8mm from the rear edge. I could just use a hacksaw I guess but was wondering what the ally fabricators use for cutting sheet? Answers on a postcard..... :D

Tin Snips can be used ofr cutting sheet metal, they are big industrial scissors basically - I have used them several times before. However I doubt that you would be able to get a totally perfect line with them.

Might just be worth getting out the yellow pages and looking at sheet metal merchants. When I bought a large sheet of alu they just cut it with a guillotine for a perfect edge. I'm sure this could be done for a small cut aswell.

Thanks Mike, I'll do some research tonight.

I'm also on the hunt for a local company which can do powder coating. (for the Whiteline ARB and Cusco top mounts etc). I followed a flat bed truck to work through Mytchett this morning emblazoned with the words GALVANIZING and POWDER COATING but the address was Medway :(

Jerry (mysh) is getting set up to do powdercoating

I wonder if Reading uni would fancy a quick job. I remember them having a guillotine back in the day......

Erghh we use powder coating and hot-dipped galvanizing at work.
Hot-dipped is the proper job but will distort thin sheet metal without support. Zintec galvanizing is just a spray on jobbie that when scratched is useless.

Galvanizers are half way between diddycoys and mafioso, the industry is all stitched up and believed to be owned by the family or firm :-) No cheapies is the result.

Most galvanizers seem to be located in the tin bashing area of teh UK which is the medway towns or essex. I can get soem contacts if you want.

Powder coaters seem to be dotted around the area, the important bit is to ask the size of the oven they have as some may not get an ARB in teh oven.

Oh yes, we have a guillotene, folder, chop saw, spot welder etc etc. BUT our factory is in essex. I should be travelling over there next week and can see if they will bash one out for you :-)

Unfotunately they are not that advanced so no CNC punch or lathes :-(

Interesting info JP.....sounds a bit like the dimension stone business. That's supposed to be run by the Family as well.

I had my FFord frame powder coated in Oz so they must have had a really BIG oven  If you can research local outfits that would be very helpful.

You sorted that cooling panel issue yet Don? Just that I'd be happy to take it off your hands if you don't want to butcher it to make it fit

Totally off topic bit - just noticed some of the posting dates on this 'ere forum of yours/ours, can't believe you buggers had this all way back in August and never said anything to me!! Waaaah!! :| Gits!!

Mark

Ha, ha ..... we had to 'test' it first to make sure it was fit for consumption Mark

I'm running without the cooling panel on Stormy Blue because it won't fit with the Koyo. I may put it on my Super White but havent really decided yet.

I seem to be pushing the limits on track regarding cooling of a 3S-GTE at my stage of tune so will write it up as an article for the DC website in the near future so others may benefit from my experience.

Cheers,

For powder coating, do a search on yell.com for metal finishers.

For a cheap job in black or white, go along at lunchtime and collar one of the smokers loitering around outside.
