Question
Are those gears balanced?
The pattern of drilled holes doesn't look very symmetric to me

Hi,

i'am pretty sure i asked this some time ago, but has anyone good pictures of the camshafts with correct mounted timing belt on so that i can see the cam lobes, possible also from the end of the shafts so that i can see the slots?

i have no mark on my cams and i'am not 100% sure about i set it correct

best regards
Alex

Does this help? It is from a 215 engine so you should be looking at the exact same thing

You can see on the pulleys the indfent (and white tooth on pulley that I marked for clarity)
You can also see on the aluminium housing above eacvh pulley there is a small pointer
When the crank pulley is exactly TDC then the cam pulley indents and the cam cover pointers should be exactly in line
If you don't have the index mark on your can pulley best I can suggest is remove them and refit the OEM ones. Mark the can with engineers die when everything is aligned and you can then align your aftermarket pulleys using the camshaft marks

I can take some pics of the Gen3 3S-GTE engine I am currently stripping. The cam lobes are visible as are the cam wheels, belt etc. If this is helpful let me know. It will be Friday eve before I can post.

Hi,

thanks for the picture but it is more about the cam position in the zero position of the engine :)

don, that would be great, currently my intake cam is in the position as shown in the manual but my exhaust is more down, it is around 1/2 teeth but i'll try to know
left or right, currently i'am not sure :)

The only way I know to check cam position is with either the notches in the cam (which you don't have) or the timing marks on the pulley with the crank pulley set at TDC. The picture was more to highlight the things you need to look at - cam wheel indexes and the crank timing marker, all of whih should align to their respective markers when it is all correctly timed

I don't think you will be able to look at a photo and judge the correct cam position from that

This is just an idea. It needs judgement and care but I think it should work. The only thing is you may need to remove the bolts that hold the can wheels on

Take an OEM can wheel and align it to the notch in the camthatthe woodruf key fits into
Set your adjustable pulley to 0
You should then be able to transfer the timing mark from the OEM pulley to the new one

Since the OEM pulley mark is central to a cam belt tooth it should be reasonsbly safe

Hi,

unfortunetly, my oem cam wheels are at catcams
but i'am pretty sure that i'am not that wrong, here some pictures

the intake cam looks fine to me as the slot on the end is vertical -> zero position for the dizzy on gen.3 iirc

and the exhaust is slightly advanced, i would guess 1/5 teeth which isn't a problem i think
