Great to see progress with this. That jig is insane - you must have a LOT of patience :D

Its fun working out problems for me. The jig had a lot of thought in it and it has worked out perfectly for what I needed it to do.
As for patience, its nearly a 7 year project so I'm not too fussed in the time spent (though that may be further restricted with recent developments with a young lady).

Remember, do it once, do it right ;) I have to be happy that either my time and/or money is well spent.

The jig certainly wins my straitjacket of the week award. Hats off to you sir

Congrats on the little lady if that means the pitter patter of tiny feet. Comiserations if it means the clomp of jackboots from the OH

Jan 2013: Brake booster stopper fabrication

Using some 5mm steel, I traced the holes on to the steel. After drilling the holes, I tested the location
Image

Then I established the vertical line to cut the steel at.
Image

I measured the distance between the cam cover and cut a piece of metal to mount bolt onto.
Image

I cut steel and then welded the vertical piece to the angle. I also welded on a nut for a bolt which will act as a stopper.

Then I welded the bracket together

Test fit again

Then I added a gusset and cleaned up the edges

Thanks, it was an easy thing to build. And then I went on to aluminium welding on cheap chinese pipes for the intercooler pipework - ugh!

Are you a naval architect? I like the overengineered dimensions! 8)

Love it! No chance of any flex with that stopper fitted :D

Well, it was some steel I had lying around..
- Could I have made it from some thinner steel like 2 or 3mm? Probably, and it would have been just as effective
- Do I care if it is lightweight? Nah, I'll just lay off some pies/lose some weight. Its not that heavy anyway
- Did I make any changes to fit it? Yes - I have re-routed the fluid hardline which feeds from the top of the brake master cylinder to the fluid junction below. On the ST185, the hardline is routed in front of the MC so you can't just buy a J-speed booster stopper and install it. Just a little something to consider when doing this mod.

Also something else to consider is a) there is a bracket for the power steering hose which mounts in this area b) an earth ground is also commonly mounted in this area.
If I put the gusset at the top, then it would interfere with mounting the PS bracket. If I put the gusset at the bottom then it would interfere with where the bolt needs to be. In the middle it went with barely enough room for the bolt holes.

Update: Currently the car is at the panel beaters and is ready to be primed. I'm currently arranging a time to go over to the workshop so I can start making moulds for the guards (wings), CS bonnet and CS bumper.

As I have resigned from my work (and the relationship didn't work out), I the opportunity to do lots of work on the car for the next 4 - 6 weeks, so am looking forward to getting the car completed during this time.

I also plan on doing a video log to go through the build as well as get my blog up and running with regular updates.

Watch this space!
