Oh ok - the wings have all the little mounting brackets etc for screwholes, I guessed they were metal and painted in undercoat!

Oops.

Well some more work done last weekend, i trial fitted the rear bumper which required moving the exhaust cut out maybe 6" to the right (as viewed from the rear).

This area is sculpted but some careful marking and cutting, trimming away a bit of the sculpting but trying to leave as much as possible to balance the look.

Just wasn't ment to fit with NUR spec R exhaust.

So the old exhaust cut out needs to be filled and the new one tided up.

Did a bit more work on the rear bumper last night.

This work was a bit more careful, well it is getting close now. still a bit more to trim but the Blitz is back on the hangers.

Will the exhaust get hot enough to cause any fire type issues with being close to the fibre glass?

I wouldn't think so (at least while it is moving) lol

So to figure out what has happened to the pump run before start up or in fact not...

is there an inertia fuel cut off switch somewhere? on the 185

A couple of F355 Ferraris had this problem last weekend at the Castle Combe race meeting. I guess heat build up is much more severe during a race than on the road. Even if you don't plan any track activity it would be prudent to protect the GRP.

Here come the CSA! what a bunch of T@ts.

So on the back of her leaving, taking her half of everything and half of my half as well, she even stole the beer fridge from the workshop! left the kids beds. That’s my fault for trusting!

My advice to anyone else ever in this position. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Take anything you want to keep with you or take a day off and supervise.

Ok so hide the car at my mums. good old mum.

Oh right in case you are wondering, i have NO issue supporting my kids but i know this *bleep* and the money will be spent on wine and going out not on what they need, how do i know this ... i offered to pay at a higher rate than the CSA demand direct to the kids. How hostile was the reception to that!

Not to mention the fact my daughter lives away at college and my son stays with me Friday through Monday every week. She also charges the kids for basic services like internet. Midlife crisis comes to mind!

I was made redundant at Christmas bummer and due to have a tumour removed in Feb.

Anyway my mum wasnt keen on having her daughter inlaw come to stay (under the patio) so killing her wasn't an option.

here we are and how things have changed, my son now lives with me, i have proved my daughter spends more time at my house than her mothers when not at friends, boyfriends or college. Made a counter claim against the old bat and now low and behold she wants to drop the case, suffer *bleep*.

Op went quite well and time to pick up the old project again. Its still at mums, 30 odd miles away.

Ok

i fitted the wings and matched the bumper up, tapped the edges of the bumper the built up the bumper edge with fibreglass to take out the uneven join gaps.

When it had set i parted the wings from bumper and sanded them all up removing the tape.

only thing is it might look like it is cracked when painted, so i may just bond them all together and smooth the lines and leave it at that.

Image

The rear bumper is coming along nicely now and is almost to shape.
You can see the old cut out for the exhaust here, i doubt the original would have fitted either and as the Blitz exits at an angle NO Chance!

Image

After cutting the new exit the old one was fibreglassed back up and filled, there is slight shaping to finish but it was getting cold !

Image

Image

I cant remember if i mentioned this when i posted this drivel up in the first place, i never noticed when i was re aiming all the pictures due to a server closure but i got a set of rear seat belts and all the trims, so i removed all the lap belts originally fitted and and now have proper seat belts. well worth the tenner they cost!

Had a major laugh the other week, i have been driving a crappy car of late that was given to me!

Its a Dogpoo Lanos 1.6 T reg.

it isnt cheap on fuel or tax so is worth nothing!

i got a quote for it's insurance and cheapest was £249 FC

out of interest i did a quote for the Precious

cheapest £139 FC !@&^%!

probably wouldnt cost anymore in fuel either !

lol

Liking the ideas on the bodywork.... a lot of time and effort there

Been through all the crap you seem to of gone through ( and in some ways still am ) but you get used to it and adapt

Glad to see its still coming along nicely though

Carry on, ohh.... and have fun

Ok,

Where we at, well been in and out of hospital. Had a Tumour removed from my neck end of Feb, Left me with of all things kidney stones!!

I have had pipes and tubes and cameras and lasers and mini air drills and who knows what poked up my knob !!
Oddly this has led to a bit of a stand still on the car as by the time I’ve walk to it i need to go back in for a *bleep*.

Can make up my mind, do i join the wings to the front bumper or try to refine the join so it looks like a join rather than a crack?

B&M trans cooler from my old Chevy is almost ready to be mounted in place of the standard gearbox oil cooler.

On the upside if i can get a trailer or a truck to move the car i can take her to work! very tempting...

My son also moved in in Feb, he finally had enough of his mother, oddly the CSA haven't been in touch since i made my counter claim against my Ex, so it is true they do treat both men and women equally...

how wrong was i when i said they were prejudiced against fathers....

Many thanks to everyone who has offered encouragement in these difficult times..

Ok so where we at !

Well i moved the Precious from my mums drive a few weeks ago, its now at work. Between all the farting around for Christmas and all the stuff at work and sick parents etc i have even done a bit! LOL

Mainly pushing it out of a morning and in of a night

The final bit of the jigsaw known as the intercooler pipes is in place, namely the throttle body adaptor part. i gave in on the one i was making when a ready made one came my way for £20. A minor adjustment to my pipe length and its in place and complete.

Image

I have Plumbed in the B&M Transcooler from my old Chevy V8 which is now temp mounted while i decide it's final resting place. Mainly as it was leaving a trail of oil when pushed ! I removed the old crappy braided hose right back to the gear box pipes. Removed the compressed fittings from the barbs with my trusty grinder and fitted my new bargain 99p steel braided hose in place.

Image

Image

Ok i abandoned the alloy battery tray idea as :-

a) sheet steel was to hand
b) i can weld steel
c) its cheaper
d) i need it now no time for messing about
e) i now have a good fitting battery tray i can copy in alloy at a later date that i know will fit 1st time.

Image

The fuse box is now mounted to the battery tray instead of flopping around the engine bay.

Image

I have made an adaptor for the airflow meter for the airfilter.

Image

this needs cutting to length once the airflow meter finds its resting place and a hole cutting in the inner wing, so the filter can sit in the arch behind the liner.

The wiring loom has been extended for the airflow meter and runs inside a conduit for protection, all joins soldered and heat shrinked.

Image

Image

I need to get Some silicon hose to fit the turbo inlet aswell as the airflow meter.

So if anyone has the dimensions for those ...feel free...

It would appear i also need a radiator fan switch for the rad? who knows where that has gone... answers on a post card please..

So where does that leave us...

Oh yes oil filter...

Its now removed as it is old and battered..
i have a couple of heads to make the oil filter remote but im not totally happy with pipe angles. these were made for engine test bed pojects. i also have an old oil cooler sandwich plate which has 2 advantages.
1) it has side feed and exit ports
2) can be aligned as needed

Image

my custom ones are made from billets of alloy so their advantage is being 1 piece ( less places to leak)

The sandwich plate reqires a mushroom top, so thats another seal.

Image

I have a remote filter head that was made for a poject however i have lost the threaded insert for the filter to screw onto...
Then i need 2 braided pipes and were running again.

Oh yes almost forgot... Fuel tank has been out fuel pump replaced and tank cleaned out of as much of the gritty residue as could be gotten out. Last fuel pump siezed up.... ooow
Oh and i shortend the throttle cable as well

Image

Oh ive lost one of the studs which hold on the O2 sensor aswell lol nevermind.

After that its going to be time to decide on the body work.

I have decided i dont like that weird wavy part on my bumper.

Image

so i think that will be cut out and bridged straight across. then the opening will be made bigger, im not sure if that will ruin the shape of the bumper though so i might keep it that size and open it up behind the bumper like a funnel effect.

ok laters everyone..

hello midnite

i agree with you...straight looks better on the car than wavy.

might be a bit late now, but I once bonded, filled, prepped and painted front bumper and wings together (on a Cavalier Turbo I had about 12 years ago) and regretted it immediately when after catching the bumper slightly on a kerb I had to replace both wings and the front bumper due to the stresses of the impact wrecking all three panels. I know without me scraping the kerb there would have been no problem, but I will never risk it again

Keep the piccies coming
