I'm using a 215 block with a 205 head and 205 gasket. So a 215 gasket should fit a 185 block the same as a 205 gasket

Does anyone know if the ST215 head gasket will fit an ST185?

Hi,

as it fit the gen.3 too....yes, but you lower the CR a little bit i think the thickness is aroung 1,3mm against 1,2mm iirc

Stock rods have the oil squirter on at least gen2 gen3 that i have seen. All forged rods ive seen dont have the squirter?

Considering the squirters built into the block on the 3sgte, I suspect the squirter on the rod is a bit like *bleep* in a stream.

Squirter in block seems to spray underside of piston which presumably aids cooling, rod squirter seems to lubricate piston wall. cant really say if it makes any difference. It does seem to lubricate intake side of bore which may have something to do with the leaning back of the engine maybe??

Hi,

you are talking about the little hole on top of the oem rod? this is to lubricate the piston pin with the oil coming from the piston buttom
typically aftermarket rods haven't has this becouse of the pin stability

the oil squiters in the block are shooting the hotter exhaust side of the piston

I would expect a high pressure spray hitting the underside of a piston to spead out in all directions and lubricate anything in sight. I can't say I've rigged one up to look though.

Hi,

there is no oil supply to spray, this is just to oil the pin

I was talking about the squirters in the block.

I originally assumed the hole in the big end was oil supply to the pin, but if you look at a rod it just goes up to the outside air on one side. The only hole in the little end is up to the top of the rod, so it relies on gravity feed from the oil splashes off the piston.

i like to use CP because they work with me to create custom piston setups. Most of what i sell isn't off the shelf stuff its done to my own designs or material specifications.

Wiseco i have recently disliked because while building them for a 4efte engine were very noisey, piston slap and are known for this. It was the first time using there brand.

wossner i found while doing the drag engines years ago we kept having skirt failures or cracking. Moved to the CP never had an issue or failure again.

Its just what you find works. I've never had an issue so didn't ever see a reason to move brands.

Tim has also said the standard pistons themselves can take 400+bhp...

but he has also said the piston rings will never last, i personally dont really have much idea but i look at the statistics of 99% of people demolishing standard pistons in the mid 300bhp area under sustained hard use... where as the wiesco or the others seem to be fine running trackdays at far superior spec.

i mean they will do, but how long will they last hard use?

just ive never seen many people use them with sucess is all

just to clear up this quote. i said i've done over 400bhp on stock pistons but i would never recommend it and its like driving with a grenade will pulled pin. eventually it will blow its just a matter of when :)

agreed, like boost on the charge cooler... eventually it will give up ther ghost.

its all intended use though, there are a fair few pumping high numbers on stock blocks but have never used them in anger on track.

personally over 360 i want a forged :)

Many of the wossner pistons use a different material from CP pistons, I would not have thought the material they use would be suited to a drag engine application.

well a forged piston shouldn't matter what use its for. if anything drag racing is much kinder on an engine than thrashing it around a track for multiple laps.

But i should re-phase that, its information i gained while doing the drag series but the cars weren't purely drag cars, many daily driven road cars ranging from 400bhp upwards.

i found it was down to skirt design. they would always crack on the skirts. never had a total failure but lots of hairline cracks. Never had that issue with CP or its material specs. To which i've used most of them and even designed my own which the other companies wouldn't do.
