as above, for my build i will be going for either cp pistons or wiesco..

now what do people think are better for the build, i like the wiesco but tim at tbdevelopments who is doing the build likes to use cp in his engines if he choses the parts.

does anyone have any knowledge on reliabillity and longlivity of each with regards to both?

cheers

Hi,

i just know that CP is build by pankl-racing systems here in austria if it helps

http://www.pankl.com/
(they also had done the TTE titan proshafts)

but my personal favourite is Wössner

Having seen an engine that James at TGT built I would go for Mahle pistons.

My 2p would be CP

we used wiesco in my brothers and they are superb quality.

just tim stands by the cp and says they are good.

any good places to buy from chaps?

Hi,

one main reason to go with wösser is that they also offert conrods and if you buy rods and pistons from the same manufacturer no one can say that the other one is guilty if something goes wrong

CP pistons with Carillo rods would also fit that bit Sunny ;)

The disadvantage of CP is the 9:1 CR

Diceman posted loads of piston specs somewhere, will have to dig it out

arent the wiesco 9:1 though too? im sure my brothers were 9:1 spec?

that would be top please fella, i still am not sure what to get, my brother has found me the wiesco for £460 at the moment which i dont think is bad!

cant get them at the moment though as i just treated myself to some Carbotech brakes and new tires and some other bits, thankfully i am friends with carbotechs sales manager though! haha

Hi,

@ 205
carillo = CP ???

9:1 is fine, but could be a problem at very high boost

There are a few custom CR/bore CP pistons available. (They will make you a set at whatever specs you want but you do pay a little more for it).

e.g. http://www.tbdevelopments.com/catalog/p ... cts_id=199

Are the ones I have. Minimal extra bore and stated as 8.5:1 CR - can;t remember what HG that was based on off my head

i don't know much about pistons but...
yes the wiseco is 9cr too. i use the wiseco pistons with HKS 1.6mm stopper headgasket to reduce the compression back.
i choose the wisecos without any reason, maybe sympathize :D
i think no one from the cp/je/wiseco have got a big difference, almost the same. i'm very happy with the wiseco, its really very quite and graphite coated.

yeah my brothers engine is smooth and silent with weisco.

indeed diceman those are the cp pistons i would be using if i did as tim owns tbdevelopments and he is doing my engine you see, he wants to use the cp's but said i can use whatever i want like.

stock pistons supports 500+hp for sure but with increased combustion chamber for lower CR (15cc). Also pistons was tested at 2.4 bars of boost. Now engine covered ~8500km.

Is that 2.4 bar absolute or 1.4 bar over atmospheric? Most people quote the latter. What CR did your piston mods give? Also, what type of fuel did you use? All these factors would have to be in your favour for stock pistons to survive IMO

3.4 bar absolute. Most people beleive in internet jpegs also in "greddy", "hks" etc, but do anyone have facts of comparing real characteristics vs stock - hardness of surface, temperature expansion...of course much more easy to believe in words and guarantees of marketing managers :-)
I saw flowed down hks "forged" pistons, broken conrods, burst camshaft...where is the difference?

15cc in piston (instead of 9cc in stock), cadina gtt (st215) head gasket and head combustion chamber works gave around 7.6 CR, we run with BP Ultimate 98. It is possible to achieve lower CR, but with st205 or 2jzgte pistons. I used st215 because it was availible in parts shop. If this info is interesting - i have some "fact and figures" and pictures comparing st185/205/215 and 2jzgte pistons.

Also i have a jpeg and excel files with boost logs, but anyway - it is files, you can beleive or you can spend more money - it's up to you, a have no interest to sell anything :-)
