Nice addition to your gucci parts collection :) Your HKS box looks like you've bought enough springs to build several engines!

Regarding the ARB having recently restored a pair of badly corroded C-One bars I would suggest you focus on the prep to kill the corrosion then etch-prime and apply multi-coats of Polykote. Its a lot easier to re-prep than powdercoating. I'm not looking forward to stripping my powder coated parts which have started to rust. Cue face mask and hours of grinding

Small update to the diary.

Dropped of the subframe and arms to the powder coating place. Hope to have these back by the end of the month.

Should finally be picking up the cylinder head next week after a few delays.

Also after many liberal applications of plus gas I decided to try and have a go at getting the main rear subframe bolts undone, I'm pleased to say that they came undone with relative ease, I also managed to get the hub nuts undone ready for the hubs to have new bushes installed.

Tomorrow I hope to get the subframe out of the car and then the prep work can commence on the underside of the car at the back ready for when the new stuff goes back in.

Got the subframe out today, there was a small holdup with having to undo the wiring for the ABS sensors and the handbrake cables but the subframe is now out of the car and in the garage.

Pic of it coming out:

Good to see you got it out OK. What does the corrosion look like though? When I saw it earlier it looked like it would need a fair bit of work to return it to pristine condition.

Next update - the cylinder head is back! Its looking pretty good I think.

HKS 264 cams and springs installed:

Overview of the combustion chambers:

Image

The surface only required two thou removing to make it flat again, I will be measuring the combustion chamber volumes using a burette but I am hopeful of being able to use the standard ST205 HG that came in my gasket kit.

Closeup of the combustion chamber, some work has been done here to smooth off the sharp edges:

Image

Similar work has been done to the exhaust ports:

Image

One thing that is clear is that with the 264 cams the engine is clearly now interferance I think:

Image

I also picked up a load more bits from Toyota including new clutch release arm and support, lots of new bolts and seals, a new oil strainer for the sump and a new oil pressure regulator.

In the next few days I will order some ARP headbolts which will enable me to start building up the engine.

I'm also due to be collecting the subframe and arms from the powdercoaters this week so I should be able to get cracking on the back of the car very shortly.

Nice update on progress. Did the people that did the head measure the cam lift? I'm intrigued to know which version of the 264's I sold to you  If they didn't measure it I'm sure you could borrow a dial gauge from somebody?

Yes I have got one Mike and a mag mount for it you are welcome to borrow.

It is a right PITA to measure though as the head is aluminium and not magnetic so the mag mount moves about. It can be done and I have managed to establish that measurements were repeatable so not far out (probably accurate to 0.1mm and the difference is much larger)

As a guide:-
standard cams:- 3.gen 3SGTE (245ps):

In: 240deg, 8.7mm lift (timing 7/53)

Ex: 236deg, 8.2mm lift (timing 50/6)

The low lift are around 8.9-9.0 lift at 264 deg
The high lift are around 9.7-10.0 lift at 264 deg

Hence it should be easy to measure.

Another update, I collected the newly powdercoated subframe and suspension arms yesterday, looking very nice they are too in my opinion.

How long they will stay like this remains to be seen! :)

I also fitted the new polybushes to the rear arms just to feel like I am actually making progress :)

Image

I've also had arrive a UK sump to replace my slightly damaged JDM item that came with my engine, this also has the level sensor port that I plan to use to measure the oil temperature rather than my current setup.

I've also procured another set of 540cc injectors and a fuel rail that I plan to send away for cleaning and then use in the engine for running in before the ECU and 800cc injectors are fitted.
