As some of you know I am just starting a rebuild/refresh project on my ST205.

I'm going to use this thread to keep track of the project as it progresses.

The spec am looking for is much the same as I had before with maybe a little more power and of course everything nice and refurbished.

Chassis

TEIN superstreet coilovers*
Whiteline rear ARB*
Polybushes
Cusco Front and Rear upper braces*

Engine

CP Pistons
Carillo Rods
Stock Crank*
Freshened Head
Fidanza Flywheel*
S148 TurboTechnics Hybrid*
Stock ECU*

The spec is not set in stone yet particually for the engine so I'd welcome comments on it. My goal is for about 350bhp initally. The * signifies parts I already have.

Big part arrived today - the engine that will be built up into the above spec.

Image

Cheers :)

The TEIN coilovers should be a big improvement as I don't think you've tried them on the car yet?

Also, I would transfer your ERL water injection to the new engine as it would help keep the charge air temps down if you take the car on track (assuming you keep the WTA charge cooler setup for the time being)

Hi Don,

Yeah the car is using TRD 4-ways at the moment. The TEINS are still in the garage.

I think I will refit the aquamist system, with a bit more thought over the tank than a bit of drainpipe! :D

Mike,
What are your plans with regards an exhaust system?

my exhaust is now a custom one in an aussie dp, a custom made one off mid section made by tim at TBDev, (i harrassed him for it and did a favour) mated to a nurspec-R blitz seen as aussie dont make them anymore

Hi Nigel,

I am going to run with what I already have exhaust wise, thats an C2 Power downpipe (Aussie copy) the aussie flexi section and the HKS (silent power I think) centre and rear sections. This will need a bit of modifying as at the moment the rear section knocks on the subframe.

I was quite fortunate in that I got one of the early stainless ones - its about 6-7 years old now and still in fine condition.

I heard recently that they don't make the stainless ones anymore?

they dont make anything anymore fella. gone out of buisness i think, cant even order off their site, think due to quality of workmanship with parts breaking constantly, great fit bit cracking etc. :(

Thats a shame if true, The downpipe I put on my old ST185 was an Aussie, it was well made and a quality part, but that was going back 9 years ago now.

yeah the build quality is top bananna, it appears to be the materials that are not though.

my aussie dp is truely superb... but the mid pipes where aweful, the fit is awesome, no knocks or noises, but the metal clearly is contaminated beyond belief and is such a shame.

Bit of progress today.

Managed to get the engine mounted on my shiney new engine stand.

Image

I spent a little bit of time stripping a few bits off and covering water and oil ways. That got me to this position with things looking tidier.

Image

Having a bit of drama with the altenator mounting bracket, one of the bolts just doesn't want to come off and its starting to round off, I think I will leave it there and have the company that refurbs the head remove it.

I also noticed that a couple of the studs holding the inlet manifold on had distorted threads, those will need replacing as well.

I also dropped my wheels of at Wicked Wheels in Guildford to be acid stripped and powdercoated.

Excellent setup on the exhaust front - very good flow and not loud :D
(I had the same setup)
It's amazing what you find when stripping an engine...
I had a couple of loose bolts on the exhaust manifold, one bolt in the turbo was half out, head bolts weren't torqued down to spec, ect.

Hope you mentioned that you were recommended by a club member - they were open to cash deals, i.e. no vodka & tonic
