Mike mentioned tonight that he could feel the difference in his ST205 with the 200 cell cat fitted. The car didn't feel quite as quick as it did without the cat. A 100 cell cat as used in motorsport would be less restrictive but I'm not sure if this will pass the UK emissions test. I think I've heard of some race teams fitting two 100 cell cats in series to pass the test and minimise the impact on performance.

So I thought I would just update this thread with where the car has got to and as a record of how far its come.

So the car started looking like this:

Image

I felt that I had grown out of the blue samco etc and also some of the aftermarket bits had proved to be inferior to the OEM Toyota items. The spec of the car when started was fairly standard, TRD 4-way suspension, HKS Exhaust, Apexi Intake, Apexi Boost controller and stock engine and ECU.

The goal for my project was to significantly upgrade the car whilst reverting to a standard look and feel.

The main spec now is:

Engine - CP Pistons and Carrillo Rods, HKS 264 Camshafts and pulleys, ARP Hardwear, all new pumps.
Suspension - TEIN Coilovers, Polybushes, Whiteline ARB, Cusco F&R Braces, all new superstrut.
Brakes - Refurbished calipers, TRD Front Pads, Yellowstuff rear pads, new grooved OEM discs.
Clutch - Competition clutch, Fidanza Flywheel.
Electronics - Apexi AVC-r, Race Technology Datalogger.
Interior - Recaro Recliners

The engine bay now looks like:

I am really pleased with how its come out. At a glance it looks mostly standard but there are lots of little bits hiding away that give the game away.

The next stage of the project is to get the front bumper off and replace the gearbox, PS and chargecooler radiators and to freshen up all the bracketry.

Then early next year it will be ECU and Injectors and mapping, then I'll be able to really see what the car is capable of. :)

Are you planning on fitting an engine oil cooler K.O.C.K Mk2 perhaps?

Possibly / Probably :) It will definitely be smaller than the previous one and also located in a different place.

Small update.

After all the work put in only a few months after getting the car back on the road its broken again - typical, pretty much the only part I didn't buy new or refurbish during all the work - the chargecooler pump.

So today I got the car up on axle stands and started the process of removing the pump along with the front bumper ready for my Christmas / Winter project of sorting and replacing the following:

Fit projectors
Address any rust present at the front
Fix the headlight washers
Refit the horns
Replace the chargecooler radiator
Replace the powersteering cooler
Tidy the gearbox oil cooler - not replacing as its still working and being a UK car its the larger cooler which is hard to come by and fearsomely expensive new.
Look into fitting engine oil cooler
Fit replacement passenger wing (paint has gone funny)
Fit replacement chargecooler pump
Derust and paint all bracketry
Renew all the clips and bolts / screws on the forward underneath and behind the bumper.

This is as far as I got today - not too bad for 2.5 hours work.
