Do i need one for 14 psi boost.

So far i have sorted the intake and exhaust, fitted a RV, catch can, FMIC and dissconnected the tvis.

The next mod in my mind is to replace the control system and fit a EBC,

I intend to see what can be acheived with these mods alone using the standard fuelling, turbo, and internals.

i'm expecting to make around 290 BHP with these mods and i know that the fuelling will be critical, but that is where the new control system will help.

So can the gasket take it or should i put a steel one on, and arps?

:D

The stock gasket will probably take it imho...

I have a view that the reason why the stock paper 185 gasket tends to fail is more through the effects of detonation rather than through bolt clamping force and gasket failure?

Good to see you have a FMIC fitted :)

Thanks for your advice,

that is what i wanted to hear.

i agree with your view that it is det and not component failure that causes the gaskets to go.

cheers jase

most people reckon keep the boost below 1 bar and you'll be ok on a standard headgasket, even with a bigger tubby, good for around the 300bhp mark before needing steel.... I hit 1.4bar the other day on my 185 with a stock hg (oops) and no problems... yet
