Been jumping about a little bit but mainly electrics ...

Car wouldn't start for a while but doing some checks I found the ignitor wire had broken and so that was an easy fix in the end. It allowed me to validate the installation of the ST205 ECU and wiring but as it was Paul Bartolo that did it (some may remember him) I didn't have any worried as it was a superb job ... Reading so many articles on how others had done it I can see Paul took his own approach ...

I tidied up the loom a bit to remove redundant wires and to get my head round where everything went, what sensors I have and where they go to the dash etc. all in readiness to install the stack dash and warning light cluster I have.

Also I had bought a Coralba trip computer which needed wiring up as it came without a harness, these are normally £150 but I made one up after finding the wiring pin-out which is VERY hard to get hold of - probably for the reason you can make a cable up yourself for a couple of quid !!! I have a 3 wire speed sensor (and various others) so that should be OK too ...

Finally I have started to install the stack dash which looks very easy due to the loom being fully self contained. I will now not splice into the main loom to pick up sensor inputs but rather use the full stack look to pickup from the engine sensors - this way both wiring systems can remain independent ...

Some pics then for anyone following ...

My trip computer (this is the c-trip not the c-rally but it's basically the same apart from the fuel being replaced with temperature - oh and the price !!!)

Oh I made these panels to go around the front cage legs to make the dash look neater ... Foam and alloy versions ...

Well I didn't realise how much the JDM wiring is different from the UK so it was a good job I had all the workshop and coloured wiring manuals ...

After thinning out the wiring loom, the warning light panel worked out OK, I decided to wire the N upto the brake warnings ...

Good work Martin. The multi-coloured wiring loom spaghetti looks a bit scary. Like the 1988 retro look with the old-skool oil pressure sensor!

Thanks Don ...

The amount of wiring (and colouring) is astonishing even in a 1987 car ! .. and the JDM wiring is different from the UK spec so my workshop manuals and wiring diagrams are not quite the same so a bit of testing and intuition is involved.

I have tried to remove as much redundant wiring as possible safely but didn't want to remove the whole cabin/engine loom and connection boxes to perform a complete purge of ABS/air-con/ancillary systems - this would take too long and to some extent is not necessary. I did consider making a complete loom but that would be prohibitively time consuming for the benefit I will get. I do like the challenge of integrating things so am fairly comfortable with this and 'tapping' into the existing wiring and systems and making whatever extensions I need - on a purely amatuer basis though ... To install the STACK dash I am retaining the OEM dash connectors, rather than butcher them and make new ones - which would have been tidier, in case I ever want to re-instate the OEM dash as the ST165 dash is superb in its own right ...

You have the superb unenviable luxury of being able to make/commission a bespoke loom for your track car with the minimum of wiring and am sure it will be great - I am following your project with interest having only recently discovered it !!

Pretty much done with the Stack dash install now, maybe I can start to think about re-assembly !!

Cut a slot for the warning light panel and alarm light fitted ...
Image

Some fettling to clear the cabling ...
Image

With and without cowling ...
Image
Image

Trim refitted and existing switch cut-outs used for the 4 stack switches ...
Image
Image

Some final pictures with the steering wheel test fitted ...
Image
Image

Some more gauges received from the states which I might install separately (not the 4k rev counter though LOL) with separate starter switch ...

Next updated ...

I purchased some Teins off Warner which had been unused, apart from on a rolling shell, but some of the paint had flaked off so I decided to try and re-furb the paint ...

As purchased, essentially new but I wanted to clean them up a bit - this wasn't essential but I wanted to give it a go as the Tein paint is notorious for flaking anyway ...
