Well I sort of bought it in 2005 as a well done to myself for getting my first proper job. Off a bloke called Marvin in Nottingham, who in turn purchased it off K1ANO as far as i'm led to believe. I had just sold an ST162 and had just purchased an ST202. It wasn't the same.

The gearbox had gone, so i paid a whole £580 for the car and some spares. I bought a 185 gearbox and a socket set and with the help of a mate changed the box over the next summer and got it back on the road. This was err 2007?

Life, University, travel, badgers etc got in the way so it went into storage. For three or four years. Until i decided that i needed to do something about it.

So... knowing myself and how motiviated i am, i paid a mate to do a respray, tidy up the bodywork and underside and replace every bush. Oh and windscreen, shocks, springs, ST205 rear diff, cambelt, etc. The list is neverending (he started in February, poor bugger).

I'd just like to acknowledge at this point that i am well aware that this is a complete waste of money. It's slow, noisy and thirsty and i can guarantee that it won't be that reliable.

He's onto the bushes and suspension now, the respray is all complete. The rear arches were repaired using the lip from an eighties Camry. It's stood up pretty well really, especially under the bodykit.

The plan is to get my white cronos on it, put the spotlights on and drive around once more listening to tapes.

Anyhow..enough rambling- pics. I intend on getting some better ones soon.

Thanks for sharing Mark :)

There are so few ST165's left that the survivors do deserve lots of TLC. I don't think you will find anyone on here who thinks its a waste of money. So long as the panels arent too badly affected by the dreaded tinworm then you can always fit ST205 running gear. That should get you some more reliability not to mention performance. I am gradually accumulating ST205 parts so that I have some spares once Mr T decides to stop making parts

Definatley not a waste of time... for one you sound as though you are going to enjoy it so in no way a waste of time

It may be slow coming along, but it is actually moving forward and each little bit means you are one step closer.. i know how you feel as mine been off road now for a year and a half but like you mine is getting there ( with some massive help from these guys on here )

Marv was a great guy and I didn't realise the gearbox went what was probably fairly soon after I sold it ...

I bought the car from a guy who ran a Nursery business with his wife - they lived in Goole.

It was a pleasure to own and I am glad it is being restored ... Keep us posted ...

Well it was bloody close to getting back on the road, but one of the brake pipes burst just before the MOT. So I'm having all of them and the fuel line renewed.

Plan is to do a European tour next year so can't take any chances.

I've also put some spacers on, so the wheels fill the arches a bit better than in the pic.

Sunny,

Thanks, we'll have to see if I make it past Dover! It is a 165.

I made it to the Nurburgring in it, so Dover no issue - brilliant drive around the track, loads of fun ...

Have a few pics too :-)

Post them up! Especially if you have any in action shots?

The Nurburgring is on my itinerary for next year only because when a mate of mine saw the sticker you put on the rear bumper he resolutely stated that 'it was never going to go back there again'.
