Test fit of the brake master cylinder, complete with brand new internals, the last stage of the brake jigsaw, everything is / will be brand new apart from the callipers and the master cylinder body.

I wonder how many leaks I will have first go?

.A simple update today, other things going on too but another win for Bilt hamber Deox C.

The steering column was rusty, dirty and complicated, it also dosnt break down too easily so I thought bugger it, made a bath of deox C up, removed the electrical bits and left it submersed overnight. well today without doing anything else other than dry it with compressed air and a squirt or two with WD40. Came out amazingly well.

Not a very exciting update, sorry.

And finally up to date........

Right, things are getting underway again.

Firstly I have started a new Facebook page just for the project if any of you are interested feel free to join, although I will continue to post on this thread.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/EONRacing/

I changed my name on Facebook to JW Pepper if that confuses people :). (It's the Louisiana sheriff from the James Bond movies if you didn't know :D )

As it's still cold I am trying to find things to do. In my wisdom I decided to tackle the rocker cover and rebuild it. It was dirty , messy and painted with crap paint that didn't cope with the heat of the engine very well.

I tackled it with some chemical warfare which removed 99.9% of the paint, a bit of wire brushing should see off the rest quite nicely :)

Image

I have ordered some aeroquip hose adaptors etc, a one way valve and some aluminium weld on adaptors.

Image

The thermostat housing will be receiving some attention too......some alloy welding to do here too with the addition of an aeroqip adaptor :)

Not very exciting, but its all I got at the moment......enthusiasm is returning :)

Love the engine bay paint and shiny new parts 8) The steering column has come up well in the DeOx-C bath.

What's the hole in the thermostat housing for. Is it for a return line from the header tank?

Yes, return line from header tank. I am hoping it will work, I know most people put the return line mid way down the hose to the thermostat, but TTE put it on the thermostat housing, and after reading several pages on the web about locating a return line, that seemed to be the best.

Nial, you wouldn't happen to have a pic of the TTE thermostat elbow with this fitting?

I thought they were common knowledge :)

This is the image I found on weversport, but I remember it slightly differently, but thats probably just my dodgy memory.

I thought the size of the adaptor was about AN12, but AN8 might be a better size......currently undecided.

Quick question...can you replace the PCV valve with a simple one way valve?

Interesting pic of the TTE thermostat elbow. I may have a pic of this buried in my NAS archive but only have my laptop with me during the week with limited archive pics.

Regarding the PCV I've never really got my head around how this co-exists with the huge breather at the other end of the cam cover which doesn't have any kind of valve switching capability. I'd have thought this would overwhelm the tiny PCV. On my track engine JEMS has replaced both with Speedflow 90 degree fittings and black hose. No one-way valves involved here! My suspicion is that the PCV scavenge action is severely limited or non-existent at high rpm such as you'd see on track.

Cheers Don, I was thinking along similar lines RE the rocker breathers....... will see where I end up with this as too many ideas floating around at the moment.....one of them will be the answer.

Another question.....out of interest what sized pipe have people used for the return line from the header to the engine? In my mind, as long as it's bigger than the combined sizes of all the bleed/breather/inlet pipes (or whatever they are called) then that's enough?

Just checked the pics of my track toy header tank lines and the coolant return line to the thermostat elbow is quite large. I would estimate approx. 4x the combined size of the feed lines. Sorry I can't be more precise but I think this confirms your thoughts plus a bit of insurance added for good measure!

So I managed to arrange a trip to the aluminium welders today, I took the rocker cover and thermostat housing to get done.

The thermostat housing with the AN fitting welded onto it.

Image

this is to allow for fitting a return pipe from a header tank as I will be fitting a sealed system to the ST205.

and with an AN fitting attached

Image

Similar storey for the rocker cover, AN fittings welded on for pipework to a breather system of some kind....yet to be designed.

Image

an with the AN fittings in place

Looks similar concept to my cam cover hoses although the 90 degree fittings you have used have a larger radius bend. If you are going to use a side feed plenum/throttle body you might find the hose fitting fouls this. It's tight even with my 90 degree 'low profile' Speedflow hose fittings.
