I used to get Owen Developments to set up my Unichip on my ST205 http://www.owendevelopments.co.uk It did a pretty good job of reducing the over-fueling but it was maxed out!

That's who installed and tuned the chip originally. I was unsure on how experienced they are with the GT4. To be totally honest I wasn't best impressed as I only gained 3hp. That's what I call an expensive mod for vey little gain. The car is much more responsive so it's not all bad.

I now wish I spent a few more pounds and got a standalone.

The Unichip isn't an ECU, its simply a device for fooling the OEM ECU into thinking its getting a different signal from the OEM sensors. If its a performance gain you're after then fit a boost controller and use the Unichip to correct the resulting over-fuelling. You should see a slight improvement in performance and a noticeable improvement in fuel economy. Your engine will also last longer if you do that as there's less chance of bore-wash.

The car is running a boost controller running 1.1 bar

She was dynoed at 333hp at the fly and 299lb of torque by owens

The car is 270 hp at the wheels according the the dyno graph.

I have had the car setup like this for approx 2 years with no issues other than when i change any setting on the boost controller the car reverts back to 10psi and i find it very difficult to get the required boost. The only way I can do this is by flooring the car in 5th to around 4000rpm. This then seems to solve the issue. its like somthing is sticking.

So if I was looking for more power and control over the car would I be better of selling the Unichip and buying a power FC controller? Oh that's if I can find one for sale.

To be honest I would like to improve the power of the 4 but at the same time I would like her to last.

I have been wondering for a while now about the power FC and a hybrid turbo. I'm guessing she will then be max out unless I go forged?

The engine will survive at that level of power (circa 330bhp) on stock internals but if you want to go for more then you should really fit forged pistons and go for a standalone ECU. I ran that level of power for some time until the ringlands let go on a trackday when my water injection airlocked. I wasn't running a front mount air to air intercooler. Be aware the costs start to increase exponentially if you do it properly.

The Apexi PFC is OK up to a point. Our esteemed Apexi consultant (aka club treasurer) regards it as the ECU equivalent of 'my first Tonka Toy' If you want more control then MoTeC, Link, Autronic etc. are the better long-term investment.

So basically I should leave the car alone unless I want to go forged.
I'm no mechanic so that would be massive hit money wise. I'm guessing that would cost the best part of £5k having the work done in a garage.
I don't think my pockets are that deep at the minute. I wish I had the knowledge to do it myself. I don't fancy practicing on my pride and joy.

Thanks for the advice.

I know Millway Vehicle Specalists in Andover are experinced with the Unichip they have been mapping them for years on the Mr2 turbo and alot of other cars including the Gt4 they would probably be able to help you, Althought the advice above I think is good
