The one normally reccomended is the varley red top 25 (20AH) as it is specifically designed for the application.

I'm currently using one from RS with no problems. This is the type normally used in the 'jump start packs'.

DAMN! Nibbles! How did you get it to fit there? I've got a caterham banner battery and it JUST about fits in that spot.
Did you have to do any cutting in bay to get it to fit or did it just drop in?
Also is it powerful enough to run your stereo system?

I don't go in for big stereo systems so no problem. The exhaust note is enough music for me. :)

Neither install above needed any chopping.
The one in place of standard airbox (185), the battery sits directly on the chassis rail with a rubber mat, then the clamp uses 6mm threaded rod into 2 existing holes plus a third drilled into the turret.
The one in place of the ABS pump, I made up a tray with 20mm angle then welded on the top of the original ABS bracket. This does require a gel battery as it's on its side.

do you have more info on the gel battery? Size, power etc.... I dont have no big sound system but I'd like to play music without draining my battery and though the caterham is good it's not very strong.

Main difference I see is that the caterham banner battery is a 30ah battery where as the one from RS is 20ah

Well, this is my attempt at battery relocation.

First time I have tried welding for 30+ years, and with a new £35 arc welder from I think Lidl, and quite impressed with it.

Smaller battery 24AH from a golf trolley but designed to take a fat bloke with his golf sticks up a hill?

Had the battery sat in the garage doing nothing so nowt to loose by trying it out.

Should be OK unless I get starting problems, but has been OK for a few local and one longish run?

Any comments welcome!
but time will tell?

And from a different angle.

And this is the battery.

And to keep some of the engine heat off the air intake, chicken wire lagged in some heat resistant lagging. Its not pretty, but it is light, and it does have a top cover, not shown!

Cheers to Sirius for some of the bits as well!

Oh, The straight air intake seems to give it a bit more Oooomph, well it sounds like it is.

If only Toyota made radios that sounds so good?
