hi guys im about to respray my celica as the paint work is tatty and the bodykit still in black. i was origionally going to go dark gunmetal similar to a porcshe boxter but after looking into it its going to be too much work in the time frame i have. so i looked into keeping it silver but adding a dusting of chromaflair so i catches the sun with different colors. just something a bit different.
Opinions?

how much are you being quoted for your spray job?

I got quoted 5k to 10k!

Admittedly the guys are utterly awsome but i will never pay that so i am going ahead and doing mine and my brothers cars

I like the sound of a quick lick of silver, not my personal taste, the chromflair though.whats driving you down that route then? even 1.5k seems cheap for a re-spray where I am, sounds like you definatly have a good deal there like

ne wonder that house of kolor stuff is expensive. me mate had his saxo done in purple and he said it was expensive. yeah my plan is to keep the standard silver as a base then in the light it should pop with the different colors. let me know how you get on.

again between 5 and 10k. not good, refuse to pay that.

we worked out the paint would cost just inder £1000 which is fine, so i will get the paint, get myself some new guns and then im going to spray both my brothers and my own cars, i refuse to pay out near £10,000

Dale - is this price from two different garages?

What have you asked them to quote on?

For a full bare metal respray I would imagine around that amount of money.

Next year I am planning on having my car resprayed, the intention is to keep the same colour and just do the outside but with the glass taken out to get a really nice finish.

I am hoping to keep the cost of that at or under £3k I will do as much of the stripping as possible myself to try and keep the cost down.

same garage.

I want the lapiz blue over the top of my silver, it is easily do-able.

Was going on for 5k for a same colour.

Admittedly their work is utterly superb but that amount of money is just insane.

3k and i would of done so, 10k, no chance

Is it not the case that a large proportion of the cost is the time/labour to carry out the prep work? If you can do the prep yourself I'm sure you'd cut the cost dramatically.

indeed but even when i offered to take the parts off, i.e the TRD kit etc the end result was " I cant give you a definative price until we take the car apart and go from there."

Not much good to me that when really and truely you want a figure before you start, i think they are used to people with classic cars and lots and i mean lots of money which is fair enough but i think its madness really but hey ho, i will just buy two new Devibliss GTi guns and do it that way if they wont knock the price down, they even wouldn't budge if we took two cars in at once!

Shame as i wanted them to paint it but who can justify 10k on a car paint job that isnt a show and shine car.

Shame they were so inflexible, but sounds like you made the right decision to take your business elsewhere/do it yourself.
