Quick question, I've searched and can't easily located the answer.

As I am refurbing all the back of the car, now would seem like a good time to fit my Walboro fuel pump.

Is this going to cause problems running on the stock injectors and ecu in terms of too much fuel?

Cheers :)

Best thing to do is fit a regulator to your existing fuel line measure flow. Then fit new pump and adjust regulator accordingly until your ready to start the engine upgrades. However if you don't you may run a little richer.

My fuel pump was a group by off rt performance I think! It's not a walboro one but it's quite as a mouse unlike the walboro.

It's a fuel tank out Job to fit if you want a hand give me a shout.

Mike, change it whilst you have access.

It will only increase fuelling if the old pump was not able to maintain correct rail pressure at your old operating level of 1.25 bar. I suspect that this would only be the case if the old pump was tired.

Whilst Pageys advice is the best way (install, monitor fuel pressure and allow for pressure compensation to keep fuelling the same) it is difficult to achieve in practice. You would need to monitor fuel pressure with your old pump and then with the new pump at high boost/rpm (high fuel flow) conditions. Unless you have a fuel pressure gauge and ideally logging that means having your head under the bonnet during a before and after dyno run to read off the FPR gauge you will need to fit:-)

In practice and assuming you will not be running silly boost until the ECU is installed and mapped the likely change of pump alone is minimal.

You have to bear in mind that the only time you will be increasing fuelling is if the old pump couldn't maintain the pressure at high flow conditions = high boost & rpm. It will not effect the idle/cruise zone as long as you don't change fuel pressure by adding an adjustable regulator and changing base pressure. It willmainly start to change (improve) fuelling accuracy at high flow conditions where the new pump will maintain rail pressure better when you turn the boost up.

Go for it whilst you have access.

Are you fitting a new FPR and/or FP guage?

I will be fitting an FPR although I haven't decided what type as yet.

I already have a FP gauge - its a built in feature on my Sparco Dash Display, I've never been able to use it before due to inaccessibility of fitting the sensor in situ.

:)

If you're a member of the OC mrbarey posted up something about this many moons ago

I remember him saying that his fuel map needed minor tweaking after a pump change

Yeah, access isn't brilliant. I got Owens to fit my sensor on a T piece at the OEM FPR. Never got around to fitting the gauge as my car is still pretty much stock :)
