Hi guys, I need to get my air temps down under the bonnet as apexi reading 50-60°c and intake after intercooler is ranging from 15°-40°c depending on weather.

I'm going to lag downpipe, all pipework thats in engine bay, change the silicon intake pipe to turbo for alloy and fit the turbo heatshield back on, and hopefully make a filter box with air feed.

I've looked into the prices, and different types of lagging. What I would like advice on is whats good, how much will I be likley to use and where to buy?

I also found a spray that can be sprayed on to various things, has anyone used something like this, is it any good, was thinking I could spray exhaust manifold, and heatshield with it??

Anyway any advice helpfull thanks in advance.

Do you still have a top mount intercooler if so thats what causing high intake temperatures.

The GT4 is a car that runs high under hood temperatures unfortunatly, lagging will help though.
Spraying the manifold will cause it to eventually
crack so not a good idea.

I found intake temperatures also dropped when i fitted a header tank.

Hi,

the rubber isolate more then aluminium but the best way to solve your problem is to get more airflow through the engine bay

have a look to http://gt4dc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2908
for more informations, or let me know if you want a short description

currently i hit fuel cut when it is cold outside, but without any boost controll then the oem one, but this is also due to my intercooler setup, my radiator fans also didn't run once the car is driven just in standstill :)

On a 185, CS bonnet and CS bumper. The CS bonnet didn't make a huge difference to mine TBH, seems to stay up near 60 degrees regardless.

If intake temps are that high you need to make a proper cold air box for your intake filter with a decent cold air feed from the front of the car.

did you do your intake box yourself chris?

I have front mount cooler and the pipes are directed and fed away from turbo manifold.

I did make my own, not hugely difficult. You can make one even easier the Dan method with chicken wire and heat insulating sticky sheet (normally used to insulate chargecoolers). Blue Peter badge awarded to the best looking ;)

The front mount should drop charge temperature back down while moving, but low speed stuff will be a problem, plus the turbo won't be as efficient with hot air even if the FMIC does cool it enough.
