Steve, Do you have the full part number and version number or any pics?

I wonder if an email to Datalogit may be worth a shot as trhere are possible compatibility issues they may be able to advise on what they found.

Just had a look at mine and it is ST205 9906-0003

hmmm,

quote from internet...
"There are two distinct serial number schemes used in the PowerFC model #'s.

First generation is

YYMM-XXXX

Where;
YY is the build year
MM is the month
XXXX is the unique item #

Second Generation is

###-XXXX
Where ### is the batch build number, so 000 or 010 or 020 (ie batch build 010)
XXXX is the unique item #

AP Engineering units are;

YY# XXXX
YY is the build year
# is the batch build number
XXXX is the unique item #

or
A XXXX
XXXX is the unique item # "

Are we sure it is an early unit?

Second quote from internet
"'The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you never know if they are genuine' - Abraham Lincoln"

11th one in June 98 for DOn and 3rd one in June 99 for Phil.

That's what I thought anyway and as such I am wondering if Steves steer that "it is an early unit" may not be correct?

I guess the question is, can the firmware be upgraded, and if so, how?.

I noticed that on Dan's .dat file the version number is 1.61 as read from the MR2 Apexi ECU, but my .dat file from the ST205 ECU is version 2.12.

I am assuming that is the ECU version number?

The FC-Edit software was 2.130 (Latest?)

I think Steve's was V2.20 ECU version

Dans is a different ECu so version number I don't think can be compared between MR2 & ST205.

Some extra notes following discussion with steve and he indicated some of the limitation of operation......

Quote from Datalogit regarding early skyline/RB26 power FCs and datalogit.

Quote:
Note* Anyone with an old v3.11 PFC will need to get us to alter the firmware in the FC-box.
You need to tell us when you order.

There are several limitations with the ancient PFC v3.11:
No hidden settings (what you get on the commander is it.)
No advanced logging function . (Only basic items can be logged)

No command to write a complete map. So map write takes 400 writes (Which takes a minute or so).
We suggest you sell it and buy a new Power FC :)

Knowing the vintage of chip used, I think the firmware is in mask programmed or more likely one time programmable ROM inside the processor chip.
A firmware upgrade would require a new chip with the new firmware burnt in.

Phil, did you get a feel for economy with the PFC once I'd re-mapped the cruising area fueling ?

Yes, it seemed a lot better at cruising speeds, but on boost I was not happy with it at all, and seemed to cut just for a 1/2 1/4 of a second just when you wanted the boost, and then it picks up again.

Next step is to try Ryan's/my map in Dan's ECU with the charge cooler control bypassed.

As Steve's Apexi ECU seemed to run fine in my car , I am at a bit of a loss as to what I need to do next?

I have tried resetting the ECU via the FC Commander, and then re-loading the map, but it still it is the same.

Thanks must go to Diceman for the loan of the Datalogit box, I have learnt so much with the kit, and Nibbles and Steve's help, thanks goes out to you guys.

But on a happier note, the horrible growling noise I had when at speed or when on track was the exhaust banging on the sub frame, which became worse after fitting the (STAINLESS) AFR bung, and me being sloppy at re-fitting.

I suppose if you wanted to confirm its related to the earlier firmware on your PFC compared to Steves later AP Engineering version you could try the same map on my PFC which appears to be even older than yours! Happy to lend it out.

One thing we should have tried is your ecu and map in my 205 with standard Turbo. I can't help feeling your hybrid is making things worse.
