I jacked up the car so no load on suspension and slackened spring perch. I then hand tightened the spring perch fully before using the spanner to add 4mm preload, seems ok to me.

question is, the website and box both claim the spring rate is 5kg rear, Im assuming that is 5kg/mm. As a result does that mean I am running 20kg of preload or does the hand tightening count too??

Your calcs are correct, I doubt that your hand tightening the spring platform will have compressed the 5kg (280lb) spring ;-)

Have you driven the car now and has that fixed the problem?

yea, the problem has gone, drove a 100 mile round trip around the back roads of the borders with no knocking so the problem is gone, looks like there was some spring rattle as the suspension momentarily came under low load conditions (ie crap roads at speed). The reason I ask about hand tightening is that once the spring perch comes into contact with the spring and it is also in contact with the top mount, there is a few turns of tightening that is hand tight-able! lol. Must bear in mind that the thread pitch cant be much more than 1.5mm, maybe 2mm.

Was mega impressed with the coilover setup don, car is pretty much standard as you have seen but with a couple degrees negative camber front and rear the car has so much grip and is then progressive once it does let go.

Did notice the understeer at the limit though so will be investing in a whiteline arb at the rear for the track 185. Was reading an interesting post on alltrac.net regarding tyre width/size and altering track with between front and rear to affect grip. An interesting read if nothing else

They could had at least used genuine pictures for the st205 at least. I doubt they, 'll sell loads cos bc have pretty much dominated the sales of GT4s and now have a good rep. Price e difference isn't much so people aren't going to flock their way unless they prove it's better than bc. If they send me a new set, I don't mind doing another write up ans compare them :)
