Has anyone ever heard or tried supercharging the 3SGTE engine instead of a turbo?
Aside from the cost involved, I wanted to see what gains we can get out of it?
Opinions pls?

interesting concept, to really get the most of it you would have to do the head work 1st then possibly ITB's before supercharging (centrifugal such as vortech) Would be a cracking project but to get to st205 power levels you would need to do the lot. Think a few mr2 guys have done this, would of thought your looking at ££££s

Bet it would sound awesome though!!!!!

I tried googling it and looking at MR2 forums but not much luck. Found someone who did it on a rev2 3sge but then I'm thinking wouldnt it be a better start to use a rev3 3sgte with say a blown turo or something?

Im not certain on the specifics but the preffered engine characteristics of a turbo are slightly different to a supercharger.(Something about low compression being a problem on a supercharged engine.

If you had a 3s-gte you would need a new/custom exhaust manifold also.

I know a few of the civic guys will build a high compression NA setup before supercharging whereas the vtec lump peforms better as a turbo once low comp pistons are added.

Im sure that someone on here will be better qualified to comment/correct me

Johnny Milner was running a twin charge setup on his orange beast in the TSS.

Personally I would have thought the cost would massively outweigh any gains even if there are gains to be made.

Fairly sure Blitz do a kit for the Altezza which uses the BEAMS 3SGE

+weight +complexity +lack of room +increased heat..

I know of a Dutch 205 which has been built with a twin charge setup but I don't know if it ever performed well or how reliable it was.

that is one seriously serious looking bit of kit, loving the black turbo/downpipe!
