As per title. Would it be a straight swap over or is it not even worth the hassle? Just that I heard the st205 'box is stronger in 3rd and 4th gear

its a pretty straight swap to be honest, a few things need changed such as the speed sensor and mounts. Few extra synchros make it a stronger box and they tend to be lower mileage too

ive got an 205 box from the 185 project which is ready to go if your interested. send me a pm

Off the top of my head, the 205 has better synchros in 1st and 2nd.

Gearing is a bit different too.

Otherwise, straight swap as above.

Fair play! I think it's only the transfer box (one right under the front seats) that needs replacing am getting a bit of a bang when changing gear sometimes... could be backfire as I have a straight through exhaust though lol

its not your rear diff mount is it? Is it real bad under heavy acceleration/gear changes?

Not really bad, in fact it's quite sporadic so not sure what it actually is... if you weren't in scotland would swing by and show ya what I mean lol

If it's a thump from the back it's probably diff mount.
Gearbox/transfer failures are rare apart from synchro wear (crunching into gear).

How much do diff mounts tend to go for? Sounds like a cheaper and easier possibility that could be transferred if it doesn't solve the problem

sounds a little gettho but I filled the 185 rear diff mount rubber with polyeurathene silicone and it hasn't knocked since. Cost around £8 a tube

I did similar on the one on my 205, except I used some expanding foam we use on parts of our electric vehicles.
In my case the rubber was ok but had become detached from the outer so I just filled all the voids.

A really knackered one would require a jig/mould to be made and then remove all the rubber & pour in new of the correct hardness.

Hi, can someone point me in the right direction as to what rubber/silicone I could buy to re-do a rear diff mount. I'd like to go down the rout of doing the whole rubber (remove all the old stuff...) please :)
