This was finished just in time for xmas for me. :)
here it is. All finished. All apart from 2 small vents which I can live without skinning because they where such a PITA to do it was not worth the aggravation and the silly man hours to do those parts.

I'll probably get a chance to fit this some time after xmas

Very nice Ray :) are these standard parts which you have skinned or are they full carbon replacements? Are they just a one-off for yourself or are they going to be more widely available through RTP?

How has that been done? A company next to mine is doing a special dipping process and can do any kind of design on wheels, interior plastics, metals etc... Just wondered if thats the same as was going to get my gauge pods and some bits of interior done.
They even do wheels and looks quite good but not my thing.

This is not the same. What you are talking about is dipping which involves a printed carbon effect on a membrane which rests on a solution surface and your part is dipped in and the print is transferred to your part. At the end of he day its just a print of small shaded rectangles.
Very cleaver stuff especially if you want to fake an effect like wood or marble or some graphics.
What i hav done is laminated the parts with real 2k twill carbon before giving a top coat of clear resin and polished it.

This is why skinning is more suitable for parts such as interior.
Image
Notice that how many small complicated and inter locking fixings there are for the interior?

Something like this is near impossible to hand make out of carbon or FRP which is why skinning the original part is the best solution to ensure best possible fixings.
Image

Some parts may even interlock so lining up is important. By skinning you do not change any of these aspects.

Had parts like this be made purely out of carbon you'd either have to fabricate or come up with your own method of fixing or risk it flapping or moving about.

Things you must know about skinning
It does make the surface stand out more than normal by approximately 2-5mm +/-
Overlaying carbon to your parts will make the part much more rigid and harder so some flexibility will be lost

This is what dipping looks like. Not as luxurious as real carbon.

Once you get all the skinned parts installed it would be good to see how it all looks.

Yeah the difference between plasti dip and real carhon and even vinyl is very different. But the good thing about plasti dip and vinyl is that its quick, eady and inexpensive.
Thanks for the comments people. i have posted a picn of it all fitted on my facebook but the picture isnt that great. Taken from my mobile.
However it all fitted together like lego with nonproblems at all.
