This looks amazing! Really looking forward to more updates on this project!

Did you buy the car as a runner and turn it into a project afterwards or was it bought as a project from the get-go?

I presume the 3SGTE is fairly responsive on ITBs provided the whole system is port matched etc as you've said... You're giving me ideas. Expensive ideas! :D

Thank you. The car was bought with a blown engine, to which I replaced the engine with a big standard one and drove rind for about a year in it. I only took it off the road for a service and McPherson conversion. Lol

That's the idea behind the itbs but I'm doin a few other obe off mods with it so I won't really be able to tell whatnot is that's giving me the gains.

5s Block almost finished prepping and ready to build.

Old turbo and wastegate vs new turbo and wastegate. Need to get a custom vband manifold when funds allow in the future :/

Are you going to fit a water manifold. Really interesting work

Also are you a journalist? Faced with a burning car I'd be going for a fire extinguisher while I still had eyebrows, not reaching for a camera to tweet what happened to them

There was no taps or water or extinguishers about for miles. I watched it burn for about 20seconds before I took the pic. It was only brake cleaner by accident almost took my eyebrows off. The roar when it went up scared me more.

I will make a water manifold to suit but still wondering where to take the turbo water feed off before I do as there isn't a thermostat so its one flow and not two as a normal mechanical pump setup has. Have either the option of feeding it water from the water pump or after its been heated through the engine like a standard 3s.

I'd love to know how the coolant flows through the block with this setup! You going for a closed deck?

I did have a toyota coolant flow diagram that shows the flowu. Dont know where thats gone tho :/. The exhaust side, if u look at an own gasket has bigger holes than the inlet side. Also was contemplating on running a water bypass on the back of the block like the rev 2s but decided not to as rev 3 onwards don't.

Image dummy mock up of head and a pulsar plenum.... I the process of making a thinner plenum for clearance.

3rd great synchro and baulkring replaced as the box used to crunch during spirited driving.
The rest of the box stripped, cleaned and assessed for wear and tear. All seals replaced.

Surprised at the cost difference of 2nd and 3rd gear baulk rings ring. 2nd gear is £25, 3rd is £140 give or take a few pounds :/

Awesome! Keep the pics coming :) I love the 5S-GTE sticker! What coating did you use on the block?

Thanks for the comments.
Was debating on using a 4sgte as there is t one in existence just to add confusion.

Coating, if u mean paint then its daihatsu gun metal great paint.

Can see the rod length and piston height differences in the pictures. Squish is at around 0.7 mm on a standard 3sgte gasket. Cams have been zeroed in at 103/106 bit with plenty of valve to piston clearance. Bit wild I know but should still idle ok. Gives a compression Ratio of just over 9.2:1.

Will collect some more dust now will I save for other non car bits. Car has been moved into the new unit. Much more space :)Image
