Sorry to ask such an inane question and i personally hate questions like this as its probably been asked before, i tried searching but so many threads came up I would lose the will to live checking them all.

I am rebuilding the centre console of the ST205 and have space for three gauges, I like the dial type gauges.

Which three would be most useful to have?

I thought oil pressure and oil temperature.......would i need both? or would oil pressure do?
I then thought water temp, but there is a water temp gauge in the car as standard which dosent move much, is it worth having a more accurate one?
The there is EGT???

Which three gauges would you have?

Assuming you already have boost I would pick:

Oil pressure
Oil Temperature

EGT or water temp. There are merits to both. I wouldn't like to pick.

Not that helpful I know! I am measuring 8 things on my new build!

My Defi triple gauge fitted in the DIN slot of the centre console has oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. Happy with that for basic monitoring. The water temp is possibly a candidate for something else but I like to see real numbers so the OEM water temp display is a bit too vague for my liking. I like the OEM appearance of the Defi :-)

the oem water temp reads 'normal' at around 50deg and doesnt move until around 110deg so isnt very accurate

oil pressure and temp in particular are important

Hi,

i would go with oil pressure and temp. + EGT, you notice a too hot water also in front of the bonnet, thas pretty accurate
in every other situation the oem gauge is fine enough

I had Defi's in my MR2 - oil temp/pressure & boost. In hindsight I would have ditched the oil pressure and replaced with AFR.

In the Celica I'm integrating them into the instrument binnacle - already put a mechanial boost gauge in place of the useless factory one for an OEM-ish look, and will be installing a digital oil temp gauge where the ABS/TRC dash lights go (I have neither) on the lower left hand side.
I'll make a thread when it's all done.

I only ever found the oil pressure gauge interesting for seeing how base idle pressure varied between different grades/brands of oil, so won't be bothering with one now.

Assuming you have boost I would go with oil temp, oil pressure and EGT. The factory water temp gauge is sufficient to tell you if there is any substantial change in temp, and if there is any major overheating issues you would also notice this on the oil temp and EGT.

I also have Defi's and love them :)
