For those unfamiliar this is a good article on the subject:
http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_articles ... enter.aspx

Thanks to gary, here is a photo of the 165 LCA. They switched to a press in style ball joint allowing them likely to use a taller joint, though I have not found more pics.
I have been in talks Weavers Sport, but he does not think anything is made anymore to suit my goals. Unfortunately it looks like TTE resources can not help me.

Some of you may have seen the racecar gtfour. He had built quite the suspension for his car.
Image

Here is his extended ball joint he built. The spindle was reamed with a GM taper as race parts are cheap and plentiful for them, plus we have not found anything that fits our cars.
Image

The scion TC, as well as the corolla and newer McPherson celicas used this same type of ball joint, and they all might fit each other. I know we can use the camry and rav4 bj. This part is made for a corolla, but it is quite expensive and still requires the spindle to be drilled out.

I am talking to TechnoToyTuning, the same ones who made the tie rod flip kit about making something. They say if we can get 10 people interested, they can make something similar to this for much less. Does anyone know if there is anything like already on the market? Or are there others here interested in such a product?

I imagine if the bolt holes for the ball joint base and taper for the spindle are the same, then yes. Aftermarket lists 86-99 celicas as using the same 3rd party ball joint, even though Toyota lists different part numbers for them.

There appear to be only 4 wheel studs?

That is just an example. That is an AE92 in that picture. There were 4 wheel studs offered on the base model celica and the rally cars used 4 studs. Most celicas from the late 80s to present are 5x100. Mine is one of the few that is 5x114.

And an extension is being designed and tested for our ball joint design by cuttyman. It will screw onto the oem joint. So anything that shares the taper should be able to use this.

Great idea and simple but...

1) How does it lock onto the ball joint as if its just screw tight it will unwind? Drill and split pin?
2) How do you stop the bottom joint from rotating whilst tightening the extension?

These type of extensions are usually for the pin and grrove type of ball joint, i have not seen any screw type ones due to the above 2 problems.

Interested in this..... I guess mole grips fix the rotating whilst tightening problem. And a split pin will fix the twisting. Plus a bit of thread lock. Given some of the modification we have done to ours this wouldn't be a massive mountain to overcome

Edit: infact looking at that solidworks model there is some holes already on it for a split pin

Pretty much like Pete says. If this is the route they go I will likely buy brand new ball joints because I imagine it will be hard to remove than to install.

It looks like this is finally moving again. I just got them to make some top mounts that allow for caster adjustment in addition to camber. Hoping to see the ball joint in the near future.
