Does anyone have any data on exactly how hot the rear differential gets and under what sort of conditions (track/high cruising speed etc) these temperatures occurred?
I’m thinking of doing something about the aerodynamics on the underside of the ST205 and am cautious about implementing suitable differential cooling provisions if necessary.
I’m aware that UK spec ST205’s had an additional air deflector mounted in front of the diff, I assume because of the unrestricted top speed of these cars compared to JDM.

Short answer from me is no. :)

A longer answer is that a long time ago I stuck one of those little temperature strips on the outside of the differential housing, it never saw more than about 50 degrees that was after a summer of trackdays - how that equates to the temperature inside the box I have no idea.

DonB did have a sensor in his differential to measure the temperatures but the engine failed shortly after and I'm not sure if any usable data was recorded.

Now that I have my DL1 datalogger I plan to in the not too distant future to run a sensor in their myself and see what happens.

Just to add to Mike's comments about my rear diff temps, I used a Bosch temp sensor in the rear diff of my UK ST205WRC and the readings seemed pretty stable on the 50-60degC range during the track day at Bruntingthorpe. I have fitted a sensor in the Cusco plate diff on my track toy to keep an eye on things :)
