Front TRD mounts turned up this morning which kept me busy for a couple of hours. Front is easy as, but the rear is a real b*$&h! Still, after much frustration and perseverance, it was all done.

Here are the new mounts..

.. compared to the originals...

Only perceivable difference (apart from the TRD stickers  ) are slightly different markings on the rubber (appear to be made by Toyo). Otherwise they seem to be exactly the same. Rubber is a harder compound which is where the real difference will be.

Once fitted, I took the car for a quick blat and the change was very quickly apparent. Old ones were certainly past their use by date and the car feels a lot smoother.

Are they worth the few extra $? Hard to tell. The old ones certainly needed replacing and I'm sure that standard replacements would have been just as effective - just gives you more bragging rights with the TRD ones I guess 8)

Part numbers are
Front: 12361 - ST000
Rear: 12371 - ST000

Gary

theyre a worthwhile upgrade imo :)

a cheaper option is to remove the original mounts and refill with a polyurethane solution, shore 80 seems to be a good compromise between stiffness and rocksolidness :)

Good info Andy - where did you pick up the PU "stuff" from?

Gary - are you planning on fitting the engine and gearbox ones? Don't think they would offer as much benefit as the front / back ones?

May look at doing them in the future, but as you say, won't offer as much benefit.

Kris, i did have a company who could supply small (1kg) tubs of self mix polyurethane compound

i finally got around to fitting the engine mounts with added polyurethane. i used a D shore 80, which is bloody hard.

i did not remove the existing rubber, although the rubber was in pretty good condition it was beginning to split slightly. i taped up the underside of each mount so it was fairly water tight. the mixed solution is fairly thick (gravy consistency) so dont worry too much about a perfect seal.

i mixed the solution 50:50 by using 2 yoghurt pots to get the same quantities, then poured one into the other. be warned, use disposable pots because once this stuff sets its not coming off! the reaction begins to take place about 90 seconds after mixing, the solution gets fairly warm and very rapidly goes from soup, to gravy, to unpourable in the space of 15 seconds. this is not the time to let your attention wander ;)

once the solution goes to the gravy stage, simple pour it into your mount. after 5 minutes you can remove the tape seal on the underside, then refit on the car after 30

fairly easy mod to do, the difficult bit is removing the rear engine mount!

yes!
put the front of the car up on axle stands
remove the east-west crossbrace
pull the plastic anti-mud cap off the north-south crossbrace, thereby exposing the rear engine mount bolts.

undo said bolts

undo big bolt holding mount to engine

remove

fill with poly

refit ;)
