I have come across a strange problem on Ezzy's rebuild. 2 of the pistons are fouling on the oil squirters at bottom dead centre. Spot the witness mark on the piston.
If I didn't know better, I'd think I put the pistons in the wrong way round as the squirter should be spraying into the central area to lubricate the little end and cool the piston crown.
Maybe I did put the pistons in the wrong way round, but the bigger valve cutouts are on the intake side.
Measuring this piston and a standard piston, the gudgeon pin is closer to the side with the bigger valve cutouts in both cases. This seems wrong to me as I thought the offest was to reduce conrod angle on the power stroke - this would increase it unless I'm having a funny 5 minutes.
Question is, what do I do about it ?
1. Machine the piston slightly to remove the interference and live with the oil not squirting at the crown. (I don't think so
)
2. Machine bigger valve cutouts in the other side of the piston and turn it round. (I need to get my head straight about the piston offset. Been a bad day)
3. Phone call to Trents in the morning and clear all my cars out, then go back to buying new cars and save a fortune.
4. Any ideas ? Bending squirters further in isn't an option as they'll foul the rods. Maybe lengthening to the other side.
