strange thing. As i remember toyota 4wd system central LSD helps to prevent sending 100% of torque to one of the front wheels when it has no grip (traction) , but this system can not be stated as 2wd and if necessary 4wd.
What i want to say - it can be pretty dangerous in tarmac events or time attack when you have 2wd and suddenly you getting 4wd. In modern cars such systems works with computer but KAAZ offers just mechanical stuff.

Before "get in" just want understand what that designer means...
What do you think?
At the risk of re-stating the obvious the standard ST205 4WD system consists of an open front diff, centre viscous diff and a torsen rear limited slip diff (LSD). The central viscous diff is part of the front transaxle assembly but its only function is to allow a small degree (~10%) of front to rear slip from the nominal 50:50 front to rear split. The open front diff is conventional so that if one wheel loses traction then the diff directs all the drive to that wheel. In that situation then the standard transmission would only be driving the car through the rear wheels via the 50:50 torque split of the viscous centre diff. I suppose you could describe that as briefly 2WD.

As I mentioned in my previous post the proposal is for KAAZ to design and build an improved version of the plate type front LSD based around the design of the original TRD plate diff which is unfortunately no longer available. I think what KAAZ are trying to describe is how a plate LSD works i.e. it is designed to lock when one wheel starts to slip thus maintaining drive to both left and right wheels on that axle. I cannot see any situation where you could describe this setup as acting as 2WD.

exactly!
my doubts was in correct understanding of "2WD", because in my mind front free diff + central viscous+rear torsen gives 3WD (one front with no torque on it), but only rear wheels pushes the car, this wanted to say the designer. Ok

Front / centre LSD for a ST205 - they are a bit like buses, none for ages then...

Will be interesting to see how it's priced.

I can't believe that after 15-20 years of badgering that quiafe have finally ponied up to make them!

Yes my thoughts exactly. Can't imagine that they would make less than 20 or 30 in a batch either. Tuning Developments (obviously deeply involved taking the 'sole distributor' tag into account) must know there are people out there who want them.

Perhaps modern tooling makes it easier to make smaller numbers though?

Interesting!

I note that the Tuning Developments Ltd web page was published on 5 December 2015 and yet the Quaife PDF technical document PDF was dated 30 June 2016. I wonder if any units have been produced? Quaife are notorious for 'customer led development' Will need to find what power/torque it is designed to. If the lifetime warranty is for unmodified ST205's then it's of limited interest. Both Adrian and Richard I believe have damaged or destroyed their TRD front LSD's.

Mines still working so far , circuit racing maybe abit easier on them than sprints and drag

Thanks for the correction there Richard! I'm not sure if there are any issues pairing a Quaife ATB diff with a Cusco plate type diff. I believe both types can be quite 'snappy'. Could make for an 'interesting' experience on track
