I just thought I'd take the car for a spin.
Since I havent been using it for work each day its only been doing town driving.
It ran fine earlier today but now..... it's not.
Below 3.5k rpm it's fine and the engine sounds sweet....idles fine.
Put my foot down and it was like hitting abrick wall...got thrown back in the seat...the car almost stalled and the engine light came on and then went it.......it did this a few times.
it's dark now so i can't reall have a look under the hood until tomorrow....

any ideas of my my issue is?

thanks all

steve

Real simple I know, but it sounds like a classic case of 'fuel cut'?

Perhaps the cold intake temps are to blame.

However, you say it is like hitting a brick wall, but that you are thrown back in your seat. This kind of contradicts...do you mean you are thrown towards the windscreen?

Check for error codes and I am sure all will be revealed 8)

As above!

Nothing in life will ever prepare you for the 1st ever 'fuel cut' experience!

I was a bit of a connoisseur of fuel cut back in the good old 165 days. It was quite a violent experience, and usually happened on colder evenings and/or when I had left the car sitting for more than the usual over night period.

This was because I was running with a relief valve to control the boost, and the little ball bearing sometimes got 'stuck' and so wouldn't bleed off pressure properly! They were quite exciting times too iirc! 8)

I hope it's fuel cut.....does this make the engine light come on.
I think I was thrown forward Karl....thinking about it now....
I was not prepared for it that's for sure...

I'll check the clips etc on the AFM intake and turbo/TMIC pipes too...just incase they aren't tight.
Thanks

Steve

Steve your most productive and best bet would be to check tfor error codes to find out the reason why the ECU seemed, (from your desription), to cut the fuel.

As above the most likely code is a code 34 - overboost.

Im hoping so.
Although strange to get it on a car with no boost controller or no relief valve etc.

Oh well....I'll find out later.

All sorted.
Where I had been getting acces to the rear rocker bolts last time I was working on the car I had not tightened up the TMIC to throttle body hose not the turbo to TMIC hose......all 3 clips were loose. What a nana......
I tightened them all up....got a 34 code off the ecu. Pulled the fuse. Reset the ecu and took it for a spin and after it wamred up nicely it went like stink.....I'm all smiley faced once again. :D
Cheers for the input chaps.

Steve,

Bet you won't forget your fuel cut experience in a hurry!

Apparently it is much milder in a 205, although i have yet to put that to the test!!

Glad you got it sorted, it is so easy to miss something, i once forget to reconnect my alternator  which led to some interesting issues and a car that wouldn't start!

I have to say, we all have issues now and again with our GT4's , and by far the best are the ones that are easily sorted! 8)
