Having purchased the S148 Turbo Technics Stage 1 turbo and recently helped fit a friends I noticed that not only are the Turbien housings custom cast but also the CHRA is not a Toyota item and looks to have been custom cast.
Basically that shoudl make the only thing re-used as the compressor housing!

Anyway - during my initial discussions with TT on their hybrids we discussed the Stage 2 which is based on a T38 and they claim good up to 500hp. I felt quite uneasy about a supposed hybrid using stock Toyota parts getting anywhere near that and hence kept well clear.

They had one on show at the Autosport show and nothing remains that is how Toyota originally bult it.

Stage 2 Spec - Model S175
T38 (Cosworth orginal designation)
76mm compressor wheel (exducer),
Single 34mm Id Wastegate
0.68 A/R turbine housing (again a custom cast unit)
Custom CHRA
Custom/ same as cosworth/Garett maybe compressor housing.

So - nothing on this turbo should be second hand at all! All custom made to fit the 3SGTE engine and is a totally different turbo to a CT26/Ct20b.

Looks to be very impresive and must have taken some serious R&D plus expense to get all the parts cast for this hybrid. Should be similar spec as an internally gated Gt3076R considering the wheel sizes used.

Maybe TT will give me a nice big discount after all the good press I have given them to date!

JP - this looks slightly different to their other "hybrid"?

Does this mean they now have a selection of turbos to chgoose from?

When I spoke to the TTechnics guys at Autosport they confirmed they are still doing the S148. Its one of their biggest sellers.

Ergh

When you see it in the flesh Kris it's actually more of a looks slightly like the S148 moment. It's very different

Hopefully they will make this the target for their next development. Apparently things are afoot in the TT world and they said to us the 148 was their biggest seller
Also oping for a big discount on their future tech

Is no one worried about the multiple failures of TT hybrids on the OC?

Well yes it's a concern but what can you do

SO far mine has survived some abuse from both myself and JP and shows no issues

It makes you wonder - either TT have a quality control issue or others have car issues IMO

I don't think it helps the way someone treat the turbos during running in and I have heard some truely frightening ways of priming the turbos!

Personally I am always 100% sure the turbo is primed and don't run any boost for the first few miles. I then change oil after 100-200 miles as regardless of what people say there may be some bedding in of the turbo bearings and compressor wheel to housing tolerances. In fact TT actually indicate that this is probable.

How many failures from different people have there been? I have heard about one guy that has had 2 succesive failures.

I have had 3 hybrids from different companies all of which have had bad press about a failure or three and I have never had an issue.

As Steve has indicated - make syou wonder!

yeah there was the guy who had 2 fail, and a couple of others that both had single failures.

Both cases (crossy) were due to the exhuast wheel disintigrating, and TT come back with the same excuse of oil starvation, or something along those lines.

Wasn't it him that had the amazing idea of priming the turbo with oil by fitting it - starting engine with inlet hose & filter off and holding the compressor wheel stationary with his hand for 2 minutes?

I think their stuff is by and large acceptable for the price, not a good product. Peanuts and monkeys come to mind

lol sorry guys, my mate had a dp by them on his r33 skyline, it was the worst fit ive ever seen on the planet, it purtruded that much that bits got stuck on it. shamefull.

yeah the tt turbo sounds good! id love 500bhp but dont think my wallet would.... direct fit means no changing of other bits right?
