Seen as i now have the ability to be a professional blower upper of my engine, thought i'd ask for some advice on logging!

I was using map watch earlier trying to log the knock, but was finding that the readings from advanced knock were a world apart from what i see on the hand controller??

I regulary see the odd 40 and occasional 50 on the hand controller since the car was mapped, didnt log anything higher than 20 today, using both basic and advanced knock!

What should i have it set too (have the options average, num max min) we used max and only got 0's???

need a lesson...

1 - use max
2 - ensure in the monitor window that you only have the items you wnat to log ticked - the more options the slower the sampling rate AFAIK.
3 - in map watch window you have values of (0 (hold off ms)) which should be at 0 to pick up all peak values and (9999 (Max Value)) which shoudl be above 200.

Datalogging does not allways pick up the highest knock picked up on teh hand controller as it is taking samples. IIRC it samples at circa 10 times a second so is quick enough to pick up anything that is actually knock and not just a transient condition (which can be caused by all manner of things that are not knock)

Basic samples quicker if advanced is not selected.

well todays logging went better, and im gonna share some stuff with you guys.

Here is a log of the knock in 3rd gear:

Image

and one after around about 15mins of driving (showing peak values in each cell)

Image

Both done on this ignition map:

Image

Based on the above i have done some ignition advances in certain cells, so this is the next proposed map

And while im at it this is the map that the car came out of weston performance with.

btw if anyone wants to post up their ignition maps for me to have a look at it would be appreciated.

You are running a fair bit of timing for 1.2 bar and 10 degs BTDC base timing. I apprecaite the FMIC will give you some gains but you are probs a total of 5-6 degs more than I normally see. some of that will be due to FMIC but I doubt all of it.

Don't forget the map should be read in conjuction with the "other" maps that also provide a correction...

e.g. Main map + water temp map + air temp map = final advance figure

Can you also post up your other maps providing corrections to your "main map" please? :)

I'll have a look, didnt spot any corrections that would have been active tho.

Not just me that saw quite a bit of advance there then

Still, according to the logs the engine isn't unhappy there

Might be worth having a deco at the logged ignition timing to see if it's actually applying that much advance. Average values should be fine

Also, FYI

Whenever you're looking at a map

If you right click on the very top left cell of the axes (the blank grey cell) and select "Use Map labels" (or something along those lines) it will display actual RPM and boost settings rather then P001 N001 which makes the brain bleed
