As i'm on a shoe string budget, i was wondering if i made a head gasket out of copper sheet would it be ok to use my st185? I made a copper head gasket for my Yamaha 1000 some years ago and it worked fine! |

I thought a 205 head gasket was different to a St185 head gasket. The engine block i have is a 205 and the cylinder head i'm using is from my St185. I have been told a uprated head gasket will cost a £120. |

I will have to use a St185 head gasket, but not a paper one, thats why i was considering making a copper one. A St205 head gasket has different water ways to my St185 cylinder head. |

How much are the TTE St185s gaskets from Florian nowadays? They can't be £120 are they? |

Had a guy tell me a complete gasket set is £124 and then i did a Google search and found a company selling them for £72.36p. Unfortunately the gasket set has a paper gasket which i dont want. I need a cometic head gasket, like the steel ones on a St205, but my cylinder head is a 185 Gt4 cylinder head + the head gaskets cost a fortune uprated! |

try contacting.... florian dot bachus at toyota-f1 dot com at TTE They do 1.2mm and 1.4mm MHG. I am unsure of current prices but I seemed to remember they were circa £60-£70 (plus P&P and maybe import tax if you got caught so may not be that cheap  )
As you say some of the old cossies and R5 Turbos used copper head gaskets for high boost application. From discussions last week over a curry with some of teh guys they may have had "steel o-rings" built in?? Not sure TBH sorry. |

Looks to me like the 205 one has larger slots for the waterways but is otherwise largely the same. I wouldn't have thought it would matter unless there's a problem with allowing too much water flow into the head too early causing unbalanced cooling. Offer a 205 gasket up to both block & head and check that none of the areas common to both are blocked off more than they would be with a 185 gasket. |

I wonder if the difference in the holes is due to the ST185 having the extra water outlet on the back of the block. |

Im thinking of buying a standard St205 head gasket and using it on my St185 head as a cometic 185 cost a fortune! Has anyone modified a 205 head gasket and fitted it to a 185 cylinder head? |

A bit of a waste of money and you don't ever seem to use all the gaskets... and of the ones you do require, you won't know EXACTLY which one fits where as if just comes as a "pile" of seals and gaskets. Dorris has already mentioned he has done it, up there ^. A 205 gasket fits to a 185 block and head, talk to Dorris. My advice would be to save your money and buy a genuine gasket brand new from Toyota, (and some ARP Head Studs). |
