Merlin Motorsport have clearly spent the winter to good effect building a super lightweight ST205 inspired creation for Jonny Milner to defend his TSS championship.

Many of the components appear to have been sourced from his ST205 from last year to which has been added WRC spec Reiger springs and dampers :D

The ride height is impossibly low and the extreme angle of the driveshafts and suspension arms can be seen in the photos.

I'm not sure what sort of roll centre this translates to but it must make for some interesting handling characteristics. It also looks like roll cage has been designed to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible.

UPDATE!!!!!

Following a bit of encouragment by me on the TSS Forum Duncan McMath has kindly posted some details of the build spec for Jonny Milners ST205 which I've reproduced below:

As you can see, we built a new car for 2010, knowing Adrian was wheeling out the Celica GT4-X.

We took a lot of photos during the build, but here is the basic spec

Engine: ST205 WRC head casting. 1mm oversize valves.Gas flowed to WRC spec by Fraser McKellar. HKS 272 cams HKS 1000cc injectors. -8 fuel lines.
Corolla WRC pistons. Corolla 98WRC block, Corolla WRC crankshaft. Corolla WRC exh manifold. 9.7:1 compression ratio.
Garret GT35/40 turbo with Tial stainless exhaust housing and billet compressor wheel (by Owen developments)

Car has only be mapped briefly, but giving 600hp at 1.5 bar boost, on Sunoco race fuel (109) Max rpm 7250. power from4500/5000.

Triple plate clutch

Fensport 5 speed dog box, 3.9 Final drive (too high - 200mph at 8000rpm)
Uprated 450Nm viscous centre diff. Cusco rear LSD

Std driveshafts, propshaft.

Celica GT ST202 front wishbones and hubs.

330mm 6 pot brakes
std GT4 st205 rear hubs and brakes
Floor mounted pedal box.

9x17 wheels ET 20 with 245/40x17 toyo 888's

The bodyshell is the trick bit:

Suspension mounts raised 3 to 4 inches front and rear. Inner wheel arches raised in body (approx 2 inches). Wings cut away and extended to cover wheels. Track widened by approx 4 inches front and rear.
Super lightened body. Alloy bolts. Single skin doors and bonnet. WRC spec cage with extra support for suspension mounts and side bars.

ReigerCorolla WRC dampers, 70Nm front 60Nm rear springs (Settings as per Donegal rally 2009)
20mm rear ARB, 19mm C-One front ARB.

Driver moved back 10 inches, steering column lengthened to suit.

Ride height about 50mm below last year. 2.5 gallon fuel tank.

Total weight 1050kg !!!

Jonny drove the car for the first time at Rockingham.

There is a development program planned with a flat underfloor, front splitter and rear diffuser, as well as suspension tuning. This car will run at goodwood this year, with full WRC anti-lag strategy. Objective is to get below 50 seconds up the hill.

More info to follow. Changes for next round include better gear linkage, electric water pump and improved cooling ducting.

So is that ST185 or St202 lower front arms? If so what front subframe has been used?

Nice looking alternator bracket ;-)

Looks like a Gt3076R compressor housing.

Looks like the engine has been lowered?

Aircooled topmounts?
And a driver who looks to be sitting in theboot above a beautiful fuel setup

It's quite the weapon for sure

UPDATE

Great news, we have a technical spec now for Jonnys ST205. I've posted this in the text header at the top of this thread so its all together with the pics. Lots of similarities with my circuit racing spec ST205 but very frustrating that he seems to have been able to build his so quickly. Still, mine is being built to last a race not just a single flying lap ;-)

Oooooh

Tial stainless exhaut housing. I wonder if that's a nod to the rumoured Garrett problems I was talking about?

Sure Jon could be hurried up if you light a fire under him. I suggest using the remainder of the budget as kindling for the fire if you want hom to proced with real alacrity :D

All Tial kit is stainless. Note that he his using a V-band clamp version. Must say though, the location of the wastegate below the Corolla WRC manifold is less than optimal from a gas flow point of view. With my Corolla WRC manifold Fensport has located the wastegate flange on the front of the manifold where it can operate at maximum efficiency.

I was referring more to the availability of a stainless housing in the face of a rising number of failures of stock Garrett housings

I'm not aware of the Garrett turbine housings failing? I knoiw there can be a problem with the bearings or the carriers and I believe thats what Owens upgrade. Interestingly the TIAL web site mentions stainless turbine housings 'Coming Soon'..........

There's been a few examples of it. I'm sure I talked to you about it but perhaps I bored JPs pants off with the story. Actually, that would explain something .......

It seems that a few people, mostly race/high power outfits, have been experiencing some degredation of the metal in the exhaust housing. It seems that after a while it's beginning to break up.

If you look at Ryan Gs build thread on MKIV I think that was the first references I found which led me to a bit of Googling about

Somebody is already selling those housings. I MSNd a link to someone or other a while back
