I've been setting the ECU up tonight for the new engine and I'm a bit stumped over what the actual angle of the cam trigger is.

I can connect the ECU and turn over the engine by hand and it will show me whenever it sees the cam pulse, I tried it and it looked miles out as the usual range for them on most engines is 50-70° BTDC. Without measuring it I could see that mine was way past 90°. So suspecting electrical gremlins I took the rocker cover off to visually check the location of the trigger arm and it was spot on with the pulse seen on the ECU. Measuring the angle between the TDC mark on the cambelt cover and the notch on the crank pulley shows the angle to be 135°!

Do any of you guys that are running the rev 4 Caldina lump know what your cam sensor trigger angle is? If any of you have an ECU map showing it, it would be very useful!

I remember Stevo said his looked to be about 70°, so I think I'm going to check the cam alignment marks tomorrow in case the inlet cam has skipped some teeth on the belt or something???

About 70 was the missing crank tooth Dan

From memory the cam sensor was way out so your 135 figure doesn't suprise me at all

You probsbly need to know if it's exhaust or inlet stroke TDC too. 135 off TDC compression would put it exactly 1/2 way down the "suck" stroke when the cam sensor fires. Seems a bit late to me

Oh bugger yeah it was wasn't it!

In that case maybe crank is 70° before TDC, and the cam sync is 70° before that? 140°?

Turns out it didn't matter, the beast is now alive and idling happily with it's CoP's and fandangled sensors doing their stuff. Just waiting for a new WB controller to turn up so I can start mapping it now.

I've been playing with the rotational-cut idle that is meant for cars running anti-lag to get everything cooled down asap and it sounds rather funky, rumbling away like it's running enormous cams.
