I`m just finishing off the design for my cross flow radiator and looking at pipework for the radiator inlet and outlet. Now I think that 32mm OD pipe will be the pipe of choice (about 1mm oversize for a nice tight fit) but I`m not sure as to which gauge to use...there are two common gauges available, 16 gauge which is a wall thickness of 1.6mm and 10 gauge which is 3.2mm thick, which do you recon would be the one to use??? I dont want to go too thick and restrict water flow and I dont want to go too thin and potentially crush the pipe or burst it?????

Oh also what is the usual (common?) thread size for after market water temp sensors?????

1.6 mm should be ok. I presume you will use circular piping so you won't crush it that easy. I'm sure the in- and outlets of my alu rad are WAY thinner than 3.2 anyway.

Common (oil/water) temp sensor thread size is 1/8 NPT.

Just to follow up from Rene, I think the 1.6 would be fine, 3.2mm seems excessive, I really think that would look really thick and be heavier.

Can you not get hold of 14 gauge?

1.6mm should be fine - As has been said - as it is a circular tube the shape resists expansion and compression. If it were a pressurised tank then it will bulge under the pressure (how much I dunno).
