Good morning people

I removed the turbo yesterday and noticed ( quite easily lol) that the wastegate has a crack in it

My question is as per title really... can it be repaired?

Thanks Chris

I think repairs normally fail pretty quick from what I can gather, after all the crack is caused by the expansion with heat & adding a discontinuity from weld is likely to accellerate the process. I think braze would probably melt at the temperatures reached.

In practice, small cracks in wastegate ports are common, certainly in the twin port ones, and seem to cause little change in performance. The hybrid on my 185 had a couple of cracks when I bought it and has done a good few hard miles since.

Hi Jingo, all the 165 housings crack, some worse than others - just ignore it!

This cannot be repaired and requires a new exhaust housing, but a new one will crack soon after installation anyhow! :P

My advice - if you're not experiencing any troubles then just ignore it and just think of it as a "feature"

Just don't take it through customs in case their drug dogs detect the crack.
