Basically I had a 2nd hand gearbox (of unknown use) put in my car at the beginning of the year and now the synchromesh for 3rd gear has had it so I'm considering having a gearbox rebuild/refurb done.
So, what I need to find out are the part numbers for the following items:
    - synchromesh
    - gasket kit
    - oil seals
    - bearings

Once I have these I can get prices from Toyota.
I have already found a gearbox rebuild/refurb company in Leatherhead (near to me) who charge 300 pounds for labour to do it.

Mnay thanks.

BTW: I will also need this info for my track car gearbox build as well.

£300 for a gearbox rebuild??? I'll eat my hat if they do it for that! :P

I suspect you will be looking at close to the cost of a new gearbox to get the overhaul done... :(

From past figures I've heard you could get half a dozen seconhand 'boxes for the cost of a rebuild. A rebuilt box will not be new and last another 200K miles as they will only replace badly worn parts. IMO best to try and source a known low milage secondhand box or keep taking pot luck with unknown ones.

As a matter of interest, my 185 had bad syncomesh gone on 2nd and 3rd when I got it, and was still going strong a year on when I changed engine & box - and gearchanges were very quick without the synchro in the way.

Better get the salt and pepper out
...that's the 2nd company I have spoken to who charge £300 labour for the rebuild - that is labour only - there is the cost of parts on top hence the original question.

Secondhand gearbox is an option.
I have one available to swap in but just want to get an idea of the cost involved on parts.

Still need to know as my track car gearbox needs rebuilding with the close-ratio gear set.

genuine gearbox parts cost a fortune tbf.

I was going to fully overhaul a starlet turbo box and the parts alone came to roughly £1000, it was pretty knackered though!

usually the shaft/diff bearings are roughly around £60+ each

you will find it very hard to price parts for a build without stripping and measuring each individual componant for wear beforehand.

I have a bill somewhere for a rebuild of my box by a company in your neck of the woods. You don't want to see the price for parts that Pete probably sold them

And despite all that it's far from the best box in the world :(

I would still like to get the part numbers to price the parts up.

Anyone got the page I need from the EPC?

Nige, there's over 100 components in the gearbox so its a bit more than 'a page in the EPC' Even if I list them all I'd imagine you only need the part numbers for the wear items. As Peter says, you probably won't know what these are until you've pulled the box apart.

That's a fair comment...but I could start with the part numbers for the items listed in the first post to start with.
Thereafter, once the gearbox is apart I can see what else is/might be required.
Cheers
