hello chaps, just refitted my old turbo and Aussie downpipe, not suffering with boost creap...

The old restrictor i had fell to bits after a few years of good service, so i need to make another. The original was made from mild steel, but i dont have any bits left. Ive got plenty of ally though.
Question is - i have some 1.5mm ally sheet - will this be ok to use as a restrictor, or will it melt / disintegrate?

cheers all
Rob

yeh will be fine.
I made a few out of anything metal I could find to try different diameter holes. Ally, steel, tin etc

I'd expect the gas to be cool enough for ali by the bottom of the DP.
I wouldn't raid the local church roof for a sheet of lead though.

My exhaust was touching my ali undertray as it passes under the sump and it melted a hole in it, so it does get quite warm down there!

Melted. Either that or the exhaust shakes about a lot more than I expected it to!

The exhaust does move about a lot - the engine is on flexible mounts. Try giving it some stick round an industrial estate with the bonnet off, you may get a shock.

Remembering how the ali bits on the kart used to wear when things rubbed, you could be forgiven for thinking it had melted as it looked like it.
