just a quick one to see what peoples 'normal' db readings are with what exhaust indution setups if possible, i thought it could be useful for those attending trackdays etc due to my brother and i going to Snetterton this 20th and the noise limit being 105db static.

now i have :

1994 ST205 GTFour

apexi power intake
ct20 turbo
Aussie downpipe
Aussie front pipes
Blitz Nur Spec-R cat back

the system has been on my car for the last 3 or so years and registered a
Static Noise of 102.8db

this to me sounds slightly on the high side so i was wondering all others??

my brothers setup on the other hand

1994 ST205 GTFour WRC

k & n 4" intake
garrett 3071
41mm external wastegate
TBDevelopments 3071 downpipe kit
Aussie front pipes
Blitz Nur Spec-R cat back

now his car registered a
Static Noise of 99.8db i think he said

his system has only been on a year though, thats a lot of difference bearing in mind how much more power he has than me??

but onto another subect, if a car has the above statics do you think it will pass a Drive By Test of 92db from a distance of 20m??

as i am sure mine will but what about screamer pipes bearing in mind my brothers is a screamer pipe, what noise can we expect to hear from that at 20m??

the pipe only comes to the bottom of rad, not exiting out the side or anything

cheers chaps and if anyone else has any setups with noise info all good. :)

Screamers tend to be way over 100db when they open up.. You can hear screamer pipe cars above anything else lol....

apexi power intake
ct20 turbo (fensport stage 2)
BFR 2.5" Downpipe
Mongoose 2.5" catback

the system has been on my car for the last 4 years and registered a
Static Noise of 91.7db

several sound test by track owners over the 2 last years, 1m away, 45° left and 45° up

EDIT : forget to say 5300rpm test

Screamers open as soon as you hit max boost really so unless he drives around the track off boost nope..

He could re route the screamer back into exhaust system and reduce it that way..

unfortunately to soon to trackday, and its hitting 2.1 bar boost by 4500ish so that would be short shifting! haha

hmmm, turning the boost down would keep it quieter would it not though? not silent i know but help?

but you would say that the noise of the screamer would be well over 92db from 20meter away?

105db is VERY loud. My 205 didn't register above 98db in 330bhp trim

:(

yeah javelin took my noise on sunday at 102.8db... maybe could of been outside interference??

do you think it is possible to pass the 92db drive by with adams screamer pipe??

i know they are loud but from 20 meters away its like 65feet which is a whole arctic truck and the cab in length so a fair way away so might pass that??

the screamer faces the floor so it could at least in theory sound the noise down?

Find out where the trackside noise meter is situated and just make sure you are off- boost when you drive past. Screamer should be nice and quiet!

Are the readings quoted all taken at the same distance / angle from exhaust ?
