I have received a question and thought I'd throw it out to the community.
Quote:
What is the difference between off side front and near side front?

off side = drivers side
near side = passenger side
However, is there a difference in this definition between right-hand drive (uk car) and left-hand drive (european) :?:

So, if I wanted a front right hand abs sensor for a left-hand drive car and wanted to buy it from a UK supplier (e.g. TCB Parts), which one would I buy :?:

they are handed and you will need the one off the same side regardless of what hand drive it is

in your example, if you are sitting behind the steering wheel the front left is the nearside and the front right is the offside in uk parlance

Nigel - you have that the wrong way round.

Near side = Passenger side
Off side = Drivers side

The way I remember it is the near side is the side nearest the kerb, and the driver always sits on the off-side nearest the centre of the road. Its the same meaning wether its a LHD or RHD car.

Thanks guys - first post updated.

So, for the front right hand side of a left-hand drive car, you would need to order a near side abs sensor :?:

Can you not do it by part number? As I recall the EPC doesn't make any mention of OS or NS.

Although as Steve says as they are handed you need to get the same part for that side of the car which would mean as you said a NS sensor if fitting to a LHD car.

(I think! :? )

Got all the details and part numbers from the TCBParts site:

Celica ST205 GT4 (up to Aug 1995)
Near Side Front ABS Sensor Genuine Toyota - Part number: 89543-20100
Off Side Front ABS Sensor Genuine Toyota - Part number: 89542-20100
Celica ST205 GT4 (after Aug 1995)
Near Side Front ABS Sensor Genuine Toyota - Part number: 89543-20120
Off Side Front ABS Sensor Genuine Toyota - Part number: 89542-20120

So, for the front right hand side of a left-hand drive car, order a near side abs sensor :!:

........and for those of an Australian persuasion you need to stand on your head in the drivers seat in Oz to make sure you identify the correct part number
