I know its advised to get the block ultrasounded before proceeding with a rebuild to determine if its suitable.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get this done? Or is it something best left to the engine builder to sort?

If it were me I'd get it done by someone who knows sthe 3S-GTE block as you nned to know a bit about the casting so you measure the cylinder wall thickness at the right location. I seem to recall Kris may have measured his own cylinder wall thickness?

Yes I measured my block twice with differing equipment.

Use the drawings I produced to find the weak area, I posted them a couple of days ago... and they are also on my site.

I originally called a few people in yellow pages to see if they could help and a guy even came out to me because he was interested in my weird problem! :P

One pointer - measure with curved probes to obtain more accurate readings or you will have to compensate if you use flat probes... compensation required as the flat probe will not sit flush to the cylinder walls...

you will not get any proper readings unless the transducer head matches that of the cylinder radius.

best accuracy ridged mount sensor head to telescopic head " like the quill on a turret mill with block on table" or an articulating arm, you can then dia the x -y giving a good range or repeatable readings unlike doing a hand job.

my 2 pence worth on the subject having measured every build that way.

export raw data into graphical representation.
