hmmm- I dont knwo a great deal about this whoel linering ting but:- it must be a right PITA converting a block to "wet liner" type - just machining out the block woudl surely craete a whole world of pain in trying to then ensure the liners sealed in teh water galleries again to stop the water just flodding into the sump? Maybe I am over complicating things ;-)

I have produced a word document to assist searching for replacement 3sgte forged pistons. alas i cannot upload it here :?

# Double check your intended ebay purchases / part numbers carefully to ensure correct compression ratio.

# Note there appears to be some confusion with certain brands between old and new part numbers for the 3sgte and 2jzgte pistons.

# Observe the relationship between Dome CC + CR + intended gasket thickness and deck height etc.

hope that helps

JE have revised there 86.5mm 9.0:1 3s-gte pistons to part number 252061,
the difference being smaller ring widths...
anyone geting these make sure you get the correct rings part # JG1004-3405, as keith and I have had a load of grief sorting this one out..all sorted for now though :D

strange one that...the only reason for different part numbers is to obtain the correct CR as far as i can think.

as far as i know usdm celica alltrac headgaskets are 1.4mm. But alot of MR2 talk is that there gaskets are 1.0mm, maybe the pistons are different to obtain the 8.5:1 cr raito as stated between engines?

if you can find an email for them, it may be worth dropping them a line direct to find out?

bit of a resurrection on this but it should be noted if you bore and hone your cylinders properly with the new generation of low expansion alloys available you can't run a 86.00mm piston as Toyota relax bore there engines, which mean they oval with the stresses a torqued down head creates. If you use a torque block when boring and honing like all educated engine builders should using a clearance hone for a forged 86mm piston won't remove the oval you need to go to a 86.25mm piston to get the bores perfectly round. Not many places make these but I commissioned CP Pistons to make custom pistons for me to use in that size. And use those all all my high bhp builds.

Just a bit of piston - engine building information
