Post subject:  Roll Cage Guidance

Interesting article in the latest MSA magazine for Summer 2011 clarifies the rather vague guidelines around the building of roll cages. Hopefully this will help others considering fitting a roll cage to their GT-Four. I have reproduced the article in full below

Do I need a certificate for my roll cage?
Whether you need one depends on various factors. You do not need a certifcate if:
The Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) is built to MSA Blue Book regulations appropriate to the vehicle and discipline, and does so in every respect;
The roll cage is built to meet FIA Yearbook Appendix J Article 235 regulations, and does so in every respect.

You do need a certificate if:
The ROPS has been certified by the manufacturer with the MSA, FIA or another ASN, and does not meet the requirements detailed above.
If you do need a certificate for your ROPS, you must keep an original official copy with the vehicle to produce at scrutineering. Original offical copies of ROPS certificates can be provided by the MSA Sales Department, provided that the ID number is known. All ROPS issued with a certificate from 1997 onwards will have the ID number displayed on an ID plate.
