Late bump for this thread - I've been doing a lot of R&D for my own project recently and naturally Jonny's ST205 Sprint is a wealth of inspiration and technical development, so whilst hunting around the Internet for articles about it I found that it had been featured in Redline's October 2008 issue. I then dug some more and found a full 45MB PDF of that issue. I did try to order a back issue, but Redline being dead and gone now means that you can apparently no longer do that. A PDF is even better for adding info to the technical forum here anyway - I'm only posting the article relevant to this thread but if anyone wants the full issue I'll upload it to my own server and post the download link to it as well.

No problem Steve, here's the link, right click and "save as" to download it. I'm uploading it to my own server because the sharing service I downloaded it from earlier was restriced to a very slow speed. This server should be faster. There are a couple of other good articles in this issue - a very brief one on twin charging and a write up on a nice V8 S14 :)

Same here, although what a paddle shifted sequential would be like on public roads I have no idea...

What is the modified group A rear subframe? How is it different? Also how comes this block despite bored 1mm oversized can still handle so much power?

The Group A subframe is a tubular steel item.

So what are the benefits of having a tubular rear sub frame? Just weight reduction?
Also how does the Corolla WRC block compare to the Rev 4 3SGTE block from a Caldina?

At a guess in descending order

Correct mounting points for xtrac diff
Correction of rear roll center
Additional stiffness
Removal of rubber subframe mountings
Correct mountings for rose jointed suspension arms
Weight reduction

The Corolla WRC used two different types of engine. The early versions used the TTE block which allegedly has thicker cylinder walls and a reduced deck height. The TTE con rods are the same length as the production 3S-GTE rods. The shorter deck was accomodated by bespoke Mahle forged pistons. The later Corolla WRC's used a Lexus based engine with BEAMS/VVTI. They don't relate directly to any road car engine.

I see. So when you say correction of diffs and rose joints, how so? I didnt think they needed correcting? So the TTE block was never a production block so we really dont know how the rev4 compares to it in terms of strength?

The cars ran a different drivetrain and suspension setup to stock which would have required different mounting points

Block wise I don't expect there is much in it. I would expect that Caldina blocks might be a bit weedier but this could easily be offset by improved quality
