Hi,

yesterday i started to think about headgastkets and why they don't use the same style of the cooling bores like on the head and the block

the same on the corolla wrc gasket, they uses a different style against OEM or HKS but alo featured the same idea behind

the only one idea i have is this should controll the water flow.......

here two pictures

OEM (thanks Kris)

i also believe, as this is what datajon told me, that the differences in gaskets etc are there to restrict the coolant flow between block and cylinder head

The two engines have to meet different criteria

Road engine is designed to quickly reach operating temps while providing adequate cooling for typical use

Rally engine doesn't care about warm up, that's what pit crew is for  , but must provide max cooling under extreme use

I imagine the increased flow is meant to maintain a good thermal gradient across the block in these extreme conditions

Hi,

a big problem of the OEM gasket is that she close a lot of bores on the backside of the block which also means air doesnt can excape -> higher risk of cavitation in front of pressure problems

the TTE gasket opens these bores but even she do this the bores are not fully opened
(and no there gasket is not a option -> ~700€ delivered  )

i now think around about contacting cometic to build a gasket for me that uses the TTE style....
but i can't can do this before i doesn't know 100% the reason for such a oem gasket.....

i discuss also the following things with a friend

- less chance of cavitation, in front of a lower flow rate
- special cooling for critical areas -> hotspots

Hi folks,

my feeling say that the answer is simple and after a one hour bath i possible found such a answer

i think we are looking on the wrong side of the engine, today i looked at the head side and found

use this link and have a look

http://www.mr2forum.de/index.php?page=T ... tID=741375

i saw that the closed bores are all on the intake side and the exhaust side is better opened, this is couse the head with his exhaust ports needs a better cooling, i think toyota just prioritized this part of the head

on the "intake side" of the block the water flow more horizontal (to piston nr.4) and less vertical
and on the "exhaust side" of the block the water flow more vertical (to the head) and less horizontal
