Post subject:  Gen.4 Oil Pump & Water Pump Difference

Hi folks,

i'am a little bit bored today so i though to descript what i had found on the late spec 3S-GTE and Beams oil pump

here is a picture from a gen.3 pump (thanks again Kris)

part number: 15100-88460

Image

Image

except the crank position sensor, there is a difference on the backside at the outro which is also slightly different on the frontside

part number: 15100-88561

Image

unfrotunetly i doesn'T want to open the well touqued housing to measure the rotors, but in front of outter measurement i doesn't found a difference
against the older gen.3 style gen.4 pump

the gen.4 pump uses the bigger gen.2 pump gear which i think is becouse of economy, i will go with the smaller gen.3 one to raise the flow rate (and pressure)
i'am told from redtop drivers that the oil pressure with the late spec pump higher against gen.3, unfortunetly i doesn't remember the value any more

and next on the list is the water pump and his housing, last weekend i found that my plastik impeller gen.3 water pump doesn't fit the housing and noticed that the pump seat is different

part number of gen.3 plastik impeller pump : 16110-79125

Image

Image

you see the the pump fit even there is no gasket used

Image

and here you see the pump doesn't fit the housing, normally a terrible problem, but if you want to create a uprated pump a very fine situation

i will give the gen.4 housing a new impeller seat with 0mm clearance (without gasket), a used gasket has 0,5mm which give me the minimum clearance i need, this is a reduction of ~1,5mm axial clearance and raises the efficiency (flow), former test with a stainless impeller pump shows 23% more flow but this value is not accurate negotiable to the plastic impeller

also note that the plastic impeller has a better design which give also a raised flow

hope you doens't found this to boring, and possible it gives you further ideas to you project :)

As i understand, the gen 4 water pump impeller is a metal "water agitator" like that of the gen 2 (ST185)...

have you got a picture to illustrate ?

Hi Gary,

in general there are two types of impellers available, one in stainless and one in platic (with a better design)

unfortunetly, i do no have a gen.4 pump any more, and yes my gen.4 pump was the stainless impeller one (also used on gen.3)

i come to the conclusion that the gen.4 pump and housing works with less axial clearance which raises the efficiency and output of the pump, but males it not accepable for the plastic impeller

have a look to this for more informations

http://www.gt4dc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... mp+upgrade

in principle this is what toyota did to the gen.4 pump but the other way -> pump seat
decking like i did is no good way becouse the alu threads are not strong enough any more

Hi,

i think both are used, my r&d pump was a stainless one and definetly from a gen.3

from 9402 to 9908 toyota only offer the plastic one for ST205.

But for a ST202 there it's a metalic one.

or perhaps you have a generic one from aisin, possible?

Hi

thats a good point, the pump i had was dated at 94/8, without part number on it

after a quick toyodiy part number comparison it looks like you are right, ST202, ST215, ST246 uses the same part number except ST205

Hi folks,

just a few datas that possible help

oil pump 15100-88561 (4th gen GTE and beams redtop) with ST205 pump gear is calculated

5,4L/min per 1000rpm

today i ordered a beams blacktop pump to get a calculating too, we will see what kind of OEM pump flows the most

Hi,

Beam black top oil pump is calculated, and i found a +10% in flow with

5,95L/min per 1000rpm

slightly different gerotor shape and +1,5mm in thickness

this is the highes flow in the 3S series i found on gen.3 and upward and fully plug&play to a gen.4 to the gen.3 just if you also use the gen.4 alu-oilpan

on picture nr.2 you can see a further revision, this time to the pump inlet

Hi,

correction to the beams oil pump, she isn't plug&play, i had to grind the block a little bit to make her fit, sorry i have no picture available but was nothing dramatically
